PLATTSBURGH — Thirteen pitchers combined for 20 walks Friday in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference senior softball game at Cardinal Park.
But it was all in good fun.
The game, which saw more than half of the players taking turns tossing at the plate, went four and a half innings with Team 2 defeating Team 1, 13-12.
"It's a nice, end-of-the-year experience, and it's a fun way for the seniors to end their high school athletic career," Plattsburgh coach Vickie McMillan said.
Beekmantown's Ashley Myers went 3-for-4 with two triples and three RBI in the exhibition game, and Northeastern Clinton's Megan Boumil connected on two triples for three RBI.
Caitlin Williams of Moriah was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
The 2011 CVAC All-Star and All CVAC teams were announced prior to the game, and Diana Schwartz of Saranac Lake earned Coach of the Year honors.
Plattsburgh High's Charisse Abellard was named the league's most valuable player. The Hornet shortstop finished the season with a .446 batting average, 14 RBI and 29 runs scored. She also had a slugging percentage of .569 and scored 29 runs.
PHS's Kristin Fisher earned outstanding pitcher honors after leading the Hornets at the mound with 141 strikeouts in 114 innings.
"She's lived and breathed pitching," McMillan said. "You don't get the kind of stats she has without putting the work in, and that's what she did. She devoted her athletic career to the mound."
Fisher, however, wanted to take a break from the circle during the senior game. She pitched the first inning and came in only when the innings seemed to be taking too long. Fisher went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
Northern Adirondack's Emily Garrand and Plattsburgh's Elizabeth Mahan each had two-run singles, and Mahan, Abellard and Kelsey Doorey had two hits apiece.
Taylor Manor of Beekmantown added a double for the only other extra-base hit.
