NCCS girls deal PHS first loss

PLATTSBURGH — It was a frustrating night for the Plattsburgh High School girls’ soccer team Thursday — especially in the first half.

Mallory Honan scored two goals — one on a penalty kick — to give Northeastern Clinton a 2-0 win in Northern Soccer League Division I play.

Honan opened the scoring with a penalty kick at 29:15 of the first half and then added an insurance goal at 10:47 of the second half, with Taylor Rabideau assisting.

“What was frustrating was that the penalty kick was their only shot on goal in the first half,” Plattsburgh coach Tim Mulligan said. “And we hit the post or crossbar three or four times in the first half.

“We didn’t play as well in the second half, and they were more aggressive. Honan obviously had a strong game for them up front, and Molly Roush played very well in the midfield.”

The Hornets, who lost their first game of the season, held a 13-8 advantage in shots. Celine Bouvier recorded the shutout in net for the Cougars with seven saves, while Karlie Neale made six stops for Plattsburgh.

Mulligan credited forward Brooke Knight and defender Olivia Carlsson with playing a solid game for the Hornets.
