PLATTSBURGH — Tiarra Spencer and Ashley Davidson each garnered goals to lead the Clinton Community College women’s soccer team to a 2-0 blanking of previously undefeated Paul Smith’s College on Thursday.
Spencer opened the scoring with what proved to be the game-winning goal at 41:50 of the first half with a feed from Raquel Fowler.
Then Davidson rocketed a shot into the back of net to increase the differential to two.
Clinton coach Donna Dixon was pleased with her team following a hard-fought effort.
“We held a lot of possession early in the contest but created some better scoring chances in the second half,” Dixon said. “Paul Smith’s is an improved team, and they had some quality opportunities that went wide.”
Emily Schultz played a vital role between the pipes for Clinton. The freshmen keeper fended off seven shots.
“She came off her line and broke up a couple of crosses,” Dixon said. “She played aggressive.”
With the win, Clinton’s overall record improved to 6-4-1 on the season.
“We’ve finally got a rhythm going,” Dixon said. “We’ve got a key regional game this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Mohawk that could potentially have playoff implications on the line.”
