ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. — Hayden Head and Jonathan Graziane won their weight classes Saturday as the Beekmantown wrestling team finished fourth in the Annual Michael Baker Classic.
The three teams who finished ahead of the Eagles in the 27-team field — Massabesic, Marshall and Noble — are all from Maine.
Head went 3-0 in the two-day event at 285 pounds, including a 6-1 win over Colchester, Vt.'s Eric Decker in the finals. Decker had a 26-0 season record before his loss to Head.
Graziane, meanwhile, finished 3-0 and won the 126-pound class. Graziane decisioned Marshwood's Trevor Smith, 6-4, in the finals. Smith brought a 29-2 mark into the championship bout.
Five other Beekmantown wrestlers placed.
Gage Bourdeau took third place at 182 pounds, while Konner German (113), Zachary Myers (152), Dylan Peryea (160) and Brandon Defayette (170) all were fourth.
Myers lost his third/fourth place match in overtime, while German and Defayette suffered losses late in their third/fourth place matches.
The Eagles had seven of their wrestlers reach the semifinals, but were only able to get two of them in the finals in what was a very competition tournament.
