PLATTSBURGH — Amanda Peterson scored what proved to be the game-winner early in the third period to lift Beekmantown to a 2-1 victory over St. Albans in nonleague girls' hockey Saturday.
Cailee LaPorte got the Eagles on the board first with a goal at the 2:23 mark of the second period. Lauren O'Connor picked up the assist on the goal.
"I put three of my freshmen on a line and they seem to be connecting pretty good," Beekmantown coach Ray Guay said. "It was kind of a broken play. She sent it towards the net and it went off one of their players and went in."
Leading 1-0, Peterson connected just 38 seconds into the third period to give the Eagles (13-0-2) a two-goal lead. Bailey Waterbury and Amy LoTemplio were credited with the assists.
"Peterson has been a clutch player for us," Guay said. "She got a nice pass from Waterbury, but she always seems to get goals when we need them."
The Peterson goal was necessary as Aly Hardy scored with 1:45 left in the game for St. Albans on an assist from Jade Remillard.
"This was nonleague, but St. Albans is one of Vermont's premier teams," Guay said. "They won states last year.
"This was the third time we have played them this year; last time we beat them in a shootout. Beating them three times is always a good thing."
Christina Emery captured the victory with 17 saves in net for Beekmantown.
Shanley Horigan turned away 35 saves for St. Albans in the loss.
