McKinley leads Eagles past Minerva/Newcomb

NEWCOMB — Minerva/Newcomb held a slim halftime lead over Westport before Willa McKinley took over.

McKinley scored 20 of her game-high 23 points in Friday's second half to lead the Eagles over the Mountaineers, 51-36, in Mountain and Valley girls' basketball.

Karin Dorsey and Mallory Sudduth each added eight points for Westport (10-1, 8-1), ranked seventh in the state.

Minerva/Newcomb had a 19-17 advantage after the first two quarters.

Renna Yandon led the Mountaineers (4-5, 3-4) with 16 points.

WILLSBORO — Hannah Bruno scored 10 points in a 26-9 first-quarter run as the Warriors raced past the Indians.

Renee Marcotte led Willsboro (6-6, 4-5) with a game-high 22 points, while Bruno finished with 15 and Kyli Swires had 12. Marcotte hit two 3-pointers, and Bruno connected on three from beyond the arc.

Karlie Tomlinson paced Wells (1-7) with 13 points and Desi Gallup added 12.

SCHROON LAKE — Miranda DeZalia scored 10 points and hauled in nine rebounds as the Wildcats defeated the Beavers for their first win of the season.

Kate Rose tallied 11 points for Schroon Lake (1-8, 1-7). Lindsay Reynolds added eight rebounds to go with six points.

Olivia Jaques paced Keene (1-7, 1-6) with nine points.

ELIZABETHTOWN — Shonna Brooks had 11 points to help the Lions defeat the Jaguars.

Jasmin Graves tossed in 10 and pulled down six rebounds, Lily Whalen scored nine and Kearstin Ashline added eight points and 11 rebounds for Elizabethtown-Lewis (11-2, 8-1), ranked14th in the state. Kylee Cassavaugh handed out six assists.

Astacia Myler scored seven points, all in the third quarter, for Johnsburg (1-10, 1-8).

LONG LAKE — Meg Smith tallied 15 points to lead the Orange over the Eagles.

Smith scored nine of her points in the third quarter, when Indian Lake/Long Lake (9-1, 8-1) outscored Chazy 17-9. She also hauled in nine rebounds.

Jessica Bain chipped in with 10 points, six assists and four steals.

Olivia Seymour and Andrea Meshefsky led the way for the Eagles (5-6, 5-4) with six points apiece.
