FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Plattsburgh State men's baseball team erased a 3-1 deficit with five runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth Sunday night on the way to a 10-7 victory over the University of Scranton in the Cardinals' first game in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Anthony Presto, Danny Roeser, Donny Coolidge and Andrew Baio rapped out two hits each for Plattsburgh State (5-1), with Coolidge and Baio driving in two runs apiece.

"We took advantage of some extra opportunities we had," said Plattsburgh State head coach Kris Doorey. "We had some walks, four stolen bases and some timely hitting with two outs.

"Matt Burns had a key two-out, two-run single in our five-run third, while Presto, Roeser and Coolidge continue to swing the bats real well."

Roeser accounted for two doubles, while Presto had a double and Coolidge, a triple.

Dan Tracy allowed four runs — three in the first inning — in going the first six innings for the pitching victory.

"Tracy didn't have great command and we made two errors behind him in the first inning," Doorey said. "He didn't go as deep as he can, but was able to gut it out. He got into a little bit of a groove before giving up a run in the sixth."

Brian Burns took over in the seventh, but gave up a walk and three hits before Matt Seymour came in to pitch the rest of the way to get the save.

"It was 10-6 and Seymour gave up a single that scored a run," Doorey said. "But, Roeser threw a runner out at the plate to keep the score from getting closer.

"They got a couple of hits off Seymour in the eighth, but didn't score. He fell behind the leadoff hitter 3-0 in the ninth and came back to strike him out looking. They then got a runner on, but Seymour induced a 1-6-3 doubleplay to end the game. He really competed hard for us."

Plattsburgh State finished with 11 hits, but made four errors.

The Cardinals are back on the diamond today at 10 a.m. with a doubleheader against Bethel.
