PSU softball team wins four games
CLERMONT, Fla. — The Plattsburgh State women's softball team opened up play in the NTC Dot Richardson Tournament with four straight wins, three of them shutouts.
Saturday, the Cardinals recorded a 9-0 win over New England College and then a 2-0 victory over Babson. Ashley Marshall struck out six in a 2-hit effort and won the first game; Heather Loughran won the second. Tanya Fedyshyn earned a save in the second.
On Sunday, Plattsburgh State edged out a 1-0 decision over Farleigh Dickinson-Florham. Ashley Marshall earned the win and the lone run was scored on a squeeze bunt by Nicole Diemer. Fedyshyn earned another save.
In the second game of the day, the Cardinals defeated Western New England, 6-3. The Cardinals broke a 3-all tie with a 3-run fifth inning. Fedyshyn earned another save.
Champagne sets personal record
BOSTON. Mass. — Seton Catholic's Michael Champagne set a personal record in the two-mile run in his last scholastic indoor track & field meet this past weekend. Champagne ran 9:28.79 at the Nike Indoor Nationals, held at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center. Champagne placed fourth in his heat and 17th overall. Jim Rosa of the Plainsboro Track Club (N.J.) was the overall winner in 9:00.37. Champagne's previous two-mile personal record of 9:33.19 was set at the Dartmouth Relays in January.
Jr. Cardinals squirts fall in Final Four
PLATTSBURGH — The Junior Cardinals' squirt hockey team battled its way into the New York State Final Four before being eliminated. The Junior Cardinals advanced to the Final Four with a 6-1 win over the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles on Saturday night. Christian Thomas and Kurtis Olsen scored two goals each, while Gavin Giroux and J.B. Chapin each added one. Chase Bedore had an assist.
The Junior Cardinals then played Tonawanda in the Final Four semifinals. Tonawanda went on to win the Tier II Squirt State Championship Sunday night.
