POTSDAM — The Maple Hill Wildcats, state runners-up in Class C last year, earned a return trip to the Final Four Saturday with a 68-42 victory over the Ticonderoga Sentinels at SUNY Potsdam.
Maple Hill (24-1) shot out to a 24-9 lead after one quarter and maintained a comfortable advantage over Section VII champion Ticonderoga (7-13).
"Our game plan was definitely to slow it down, but we couldn't stop from getting in the lane," Ticonderoga Coach Matt Cossey said.
"We didn't give them a lot of second opportunities, but they didn't need to. They made some shots early, got some momentum and then felt like they couldn't miss."
The Sentinels were successful in limiting Christopher Despart, who torched Brushton-Moira for 27 on Friday night. But David Briggs picked up the slack with 23 while Sean Danaher chipped in with 13.
"Briggs had 15 in the first half. We switched to a 2-3 zone to start the second half, but got out of that in a hurry after he (Briggs) hit two quick threes," Cossey related.
Nick Mars scored 12 points to lead Ticonderoga.
