Moriah sets meeting for fall sports

PORT HENRY — Moriah Central School has scheduled a meeting of all fall coaches, athletes and parents for Thursday, at 6 p.m., in the high-school library.

The meeting will take up the school's code of conduct. For more information, contact Brian Cross, at 546-7091.

25th Y-TRI slated for Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA will run its 25th-Annual Y-TRI Triathlon Saturday at Point Au Roche State Park. The race, will get under way at 9 a.m., and involve a half-mile lake swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 4-mile run (bike and run courses are flat).

Shirts will be presented to all participants, who will be treated to a buffet lunch following the race. Awards will go to the top individuals and teams.

To register, visit the YMCA (17 Oak St.) or on race day, from 6:45-8 a.m. Register before Friday and save $5 late entry fee.

Hot Rods for Hospice tourneys Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — The Hot Rods for Hospice Tournaments will be held Saturday at 8 Ball Billiards Cafe, 7202 State Route 9N, Plattsburgh.

It will feature horseshoes, pool and volleyball tournaments, starting at 2 p.m.m with trophies and Cash prizes awarded.

North Country Hockey seeks coaches

ROUSES POINT — North Country Youth Hockey (NCYH) is accepting coaching applications for any persons who may be interested in helping coach during the 2010-2011 season.

Visit www.ncyhockey.org for coaching applications. The coaches and managers link is on the home page on the right side of the screen. Applications must be received by Sept. 1.

North Country Youth Hockey will hold registration for the 2010/11 season on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Members are asked to register players with USA Hockey prior to attending registration. Bring your USA Hockey confirmation page to registration along with NCYH registration, consent to treat, and medical history forms from the www.ncyhockey.org website. Email Brooke Leduc at bleduc@fairpoint.net if you have questions.

Also, NCYH will have a Coin Drop and Bottle Drive/Drop off on Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Rouses Point Recreation Center. Parents and children are encouraged to attend and help out.

Miners to practice tonight

LYON MOUNTAIN — The Lyon Mountain Miners of the Champlain Valley Baseball League will practice tonight at six, weather permitting, at Miners' field.

MALONE — Section X (St. Lawrence Valley) has announced the schedule of preseason meetings for fall sports.

Football — Sunday, Aug. 22, Saranac Lake High School, 2 p.m.

Modified football — Tuesday, Aug. 24, OFA teachers' lounge, 6:30 p.m.

Girls' swimming — Monday, Aug. 30, St. Lawrence Central elementary school, 6:30 p.m.

Soccer — Monday, Aug. 16, Canton High School, 7 p.m.

Volleyball — Wednesday, Aug. 11, Potsdam High School, room 823, 6 p.m.

Cross country — Monday, Aug. 30, Lobster House, 6 p.m.
