Dannemora golf position round set
PLATTSBURGH — The position round in the Dannemora Fun Golf League is set for next week at Bluff Point Golf Resort. Matches will be based on current standings. A picnic at the gazebo will follow golf.

Police/McCadam golf tourney Aug. 12
ROUSES POINT — The 28th-Annual Plattsburgh Police Officers/McCadam Distributing Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, August 12 at the North Country Golf Club with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The format is a two-man scramble, with only one player under a 10 handicap.
The entry fee is $70 per person for non-members and $50 per person for members which includes: 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch (hot dogs, hamburgers and beverage), pig roast with all the trimmings and complimentary gift before the start of the tournament.

Youth tennis clinic set for Rouses Point
ROUSES POINT — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will give a tennis clinic at the Rouses Point Civic Center Tennis Courts Wednesday, from 2:30-4 p.m. The clinic is suited for beginner tennis players. No prior experience is necessary.
Boys and girls ages 7-15 are invited to attend. Tennis racquets and balls will be provided. Pre-Registration is required.

Junior lessons continue at North Country
ROUSES POINT — North Country Golf Academy will continue to hold lessons on Wednesdays until Aug. 25. The times are as follows: 4-9 year olds, 10-11 a.m.; 10-up 11 a.m.-noon. Fundraisers planned for disabled soldier
CANTON — Two events in August will raise funds for a disabled American soldier and a rehabilitative-golf program that helps him and others enjoy sports again.
A music dinner theater and golf tournament are planned for Thursday and Friday, Aug. 12 and 13, by the Salute the Military Golf Association which recently created a chapter in the North Country.
All funds raised at the Operation Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament go toward providing golf lessons, equipment and playing access for veterans injured ion combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The musical dinner theater will benefit Cpl. Aaron Howell of Parishville, a Marine from St. Lawrence County who lost limbs while serving in Afghanistan.
The event begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Lobster House on Route 56 in Norwood.
It features music from Crescent Street Jam, Minor Swing, the Canton Barbershop Quartet and a women's barbershop quartet, For Heaven Sake.
The evening will be recorded by North Country veteran newsman Jack LaDuke and sent to Howell where he is recuperating at Walter Reed Army Hospital.

The golf tournament follows the next day, Friday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course on U.S. Route 11 in Canton.
Registration is $60 and includes the greens fee, cart, door-prize drawings and a buffet dinner.
The association's first golf tournament in May at Highland Green Golf Course in Dickinson drew more than 100 golfers and spectators and raised more than $6,000 for the program.
The final tournament of the season is still being planned for the Barracks Golf Course in Plattsburgh on Oct. 25.
The tournaments culminate in a tri-county competition where the winners play for the Wounded Warrior Perpetual Trophy which the team keeps at its home golf club for the year.

Beauharnois, Duprey best in 10-mile event
POINT AU ROCHE — Bruce Beauharnois placed first in the 10-mile event posting a time of 22:31, followed by Scott Woodward in at 22:48, Jeff Krywanczyk captured third place with at time of 24:03. Mary Duprey was the first place female posting a time of 24:35 followed by Lynne Murray 26:20 and Alicia Chase 27:19.
Sixteen cyclists participated in the 11th event of the season under warm temperatures and south winds. The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign up starts around 5:30 a.m. with the first rider going out at 6 a.m. Riders interested in the 25 mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30-5:45.
