Bulldogs start with a win

BRUSHTON — Michael Trombley scored the lone goal of the game and Chateaugay opened its Northern Athletic Conference boys' soccer season Wednesday with a 1-0 victory over Brushton-Moira.

Trombley's goal came at 10:34 of the first half.

"We had just made a rush and had a little bit of pressure," said Chateaugay head coach Bob Ouimet.

"Brushton-Moira misplayed a clearing ball and Trombly picked it up on the run 35 yards out, put it over the goalie's head and it bounced into the net."

Erik Fleury was in net for the shutout with two saves and Tyler Montroy made nine stops for the Panthers, who were outshot 13-5.

"Defensively, Cory Richards, Jacob Powers, Ben Trombley and Michael Trombly played well for us," Ouimet said. "Brushton has a lot of speed on the front line and we stopped it pretty well.

"Brushton's midfielders played well."
