DELHI — The Clinton Community College women's basketball team played three great halves this past weekend.
But, it was the one bad half that kept the Cougars from winning two games instead of one.
The Cougars, who rolled to an 84-47 victory at Fulton-Montgomery Community College the day before, dug too big a hole in the first half Sunday against SUNY Delhi and dropped a 47-41 decision.
Clinton C.C. (10-13 overall, 6-7 conference) shot just 2-for-19 in the first half Sunday and fell behind, 31-8, after 20 minutes.
The Cougars then outscored the Broncos, 33-16, after intermission, but couldn't come all the way back.
"We didn't come to play in the first half," said Clinton C.C. coach Donna Dixon. "We didn't shoot well and allowed them to do whatever they wanted.
"We were a completely different team from the day before. We need to come ready to play in every game and that was frustrating today."
Dixon, however, was pleased with her team in the second half. But, it was too little, too late.
"We went to a trapping zone in the second half," Dixon said. "We went on a 26-8 run. But, we dug too big a hole to get out of. There was also a clock issue where the game had to be stopped for a while when we had the momentum. We, however, shouldn't have been in that position.
"I was happy with our play in the second half. But, it's disappointing to lose a game we could have won after how well we played yesterday."
Shanay Bradley led SUNY Delhi with 11 points, while Octavia Bryant added nine and Lani Smith, eight.
Brittany Godreau paced Clinton C.C. with 12 points, while Shannon Nutbrown finished with 10 and Johni Coryea, nine. Jordyn LaRock had a team-high 12 rebounds and Godreau chipped in with six rebounds and four steals.
The Cougars play their final regular season home game of the season on Tuesday when they host Word of Life at 5 p.m.
