JOHNSTOWN — The Clinton Community College men's basketball team held a 17-point lead in the first half against Fulton-Montgomery Community College Saturday.

The Cougars, however, couldn't hold it and dropped a 74-62 decision.

"We held the lead until six minutes were left in the game," said Clinton C.C. head coach Kevin Daugherty. "We were down, 13-7, and switched to a zone. We were effective and our inside guys did a good job.

"In the second half, we let them cut it in half early one. And, (Ricardo) Pierre hit a couple of three-pointers that hurt. We also weren't able to keep their post players off the glass in the second half."

Kairo Rochford led Fulton-Montgomery C.C. with 17 points.

Justin Vice connected on four three-pointers and paced the Cougars with 16 points. Terrick Waiters followed with 14 points. Shareem Hardy grabbed eight rebounds in the first half.

"Their strength is in the post they have a lot of athletes 6-4 and 6-5," Daugherty said. "Our zone did a good job negating that early, but we weren't able to maintain it in the second half. We gave up too many second and third shots in the end.

"We got real good play from Waiters — he did a nice job defensively inside on the boards. Vice once again led us in scoring and he has been a model of consistency offensively.

QUEENSBURY — The Saints opened a 10-point lead by the break and then held on through a poor shooting second half for the victory.

"We led most of the way, but we missed some free throws the second half that made it closer than it should have been," NCCC Coach Jerrad Dumont said. "They (Adirondack) made a few adjustments and shot very well the second half.

"Our defense was very good the first half and we shot much better."

Octavia Daye had an outstanding afternoon with 26 points and a stellar defensive effort in limiting Adirondack star Tiffany Bezio to nine points.
