PLATTSBURGH — It was a big day for Beekmantown at the Section VII Bowling Championships held Saturday at North Bowl Lanes.
Beekmantown I won the boys' competition by 462 pins over second-place Plattsburgh High School (6477-6015).
And, it was even more one-sided on the girls' side as the Eagles defeated runner-up Peru by 778 pins (5363-4585).
Everyone on the Beekmantown 1 boys had 600 or better series, with A.J. Brunet finishing with 656 and 735 series; Adam Stuart, 636 and 726, to go along with a 280 game; Ryan Douglas, 629; Mike Deyo, 667 and 645; and Eric LaBonte, 629 and 612.
The Eagles, who also won the CVAC title this season, got off to a good start with an 1131 scratch in the first game of the morning and never looked back.
"We started out really well," said Beekmantown coach Charlie Stone. "We dropped some pins in the last game of the first set, but hung onto the lead and kept building in the second set.
"We wanted to stay focused and not relax in the last game of the day and we were good enough. The boys were upset about not winning the sectionals last year, worked hard and finished it this year."
Meanwhile, the Beekmantown girls jumped in front right away and kept pouring it on.
Ali Munson rolled a 205-247-236-688 series in the morning and added a 600 series in the afternoon to lead the way for the Eagles. Paedyn Mattioli (579), Taylor LaValley (568), Harley Wells and Katie Reed also did their share to help out the cause.
"We were up 253 pins at the break," said Beekmantown coach Jim Garrant. "The girls have been bowling well the last three or four weeks. They were focused all day today and continued what they have been doing.
"Bowling six games today began to wear on the younger bowlers. Ali is the only senior on the team and we peaked at the right time this season."
It was also a good day for the Plattsburgh High School 1 boys, who were in sixth place following the morning shift before rallying to place second.
Rob Knowles rolled 650 and 658 series for the Hornets, tossing five 200 games in all, while Brett Gilman had a 666, Kyle Trout a 631 and Jonas Miller, a 615.
"I'm happy," said PHS coach Scott Corrow. "We finished third in the CVAC regular season and second in the sectionals. I'm excited because I knew our guys could do it.
"We had a bad first game and were sixth after the morning round. But, we became more focused, got better as the day went on and were able to keep the momentum going. This is the best we've done since I've been here."
Saranac 1 finished third in the boys' competition with a 5985 and Beekmantown 2 in fourth with 5977. Taylor Chapple rolled six 200 or better games for the Chiefs and had 665 and 705 series, while James LaDuke Jr. rolled 738 and and 602 triples, with his 738 the high on the day for the boys. Andrew Roberts had a solid day for Beekmantown 2 with 667 and 679 series.
Defending sectional champion Peru 1 was fifth with a 5884 and Justin D'Aust had the high series on the day for the Indians with a 249-268-704. Chris Bennett fired a 257-243-681 triple for Ticonderoga 1, which was sixth with a 5781.
Meanwhile, on the girls' side, Brittany Bushey's 548 series led Peru to its second-place finish behind Beekmantown.
Saranac, with Ashley Rock tossing 563 and 236-231-603 series, ended up third with a 4444 and CVAC champion Northeastern Clinton fourth with a 4401. Allison Beebie rolled a 567 series for the Plattsburgh High School girls, who were fifth at 4205.
The Beekmantown 1 boys' and girls' teams will advance to state competition. Bowlers with the top 24 averages for both boys and girls, other than the winning Beekmantown teams, will compete on Tuesday at Riverside Lanes in AuSable Forks for spots on the Section VII all-star teams that will also take part in the state event.
