ROUSES POINT — Seven-time champion Barton VanLeuvan carded a 68 Saturday to take the opening-round lead in the Men’s Championship Flight at the North Country Golf Club Championships.
VanLeuvan leads Dennie LaPorte by four strokes and Dave Kokes by five entering today’s second and final round.
In the Ladies’ Championship Flight, three-time winner Caroline Hayes leads the way after shooting a 75. She leads 16-time champion Kathy Barcomb, who carded an 82, by seven strokes.
In the Men’s Senior Championship Flight, Claude Poitras finished with a 72 and is six strokes ahead of his nearest competitor.
Other flight leaders include: Larry Brown in the Men’s A with an 84, Lee Jubert in the Men’s B with an 86, Bill Buley in the Men’s C with a 95, Mary Jo Jubert in the Women’s A and C. James Forkey in the Senior B with an 87.
