PLATTSBURGH — After the first day of fishing, J.T. Kenney grabbed the lead in the FLW EverStart Series on Lake Champlain Thursday.
Kenney, from Palm Bay, Fla., hauled in 21 pounds, 8 ounces for his total catch to get on top of the leaderboard.
Tom Belinda of Holidaysburg, Pa. sits in second place with a catch of 20-13, and Curt Tindall of Brandon, Vt. is in third with 20-10.
Westport’s Howard Hammonds was the top local angler, snagging 77th place with a haul of 12-4.
Brian Alspaugh of Manchester, Vt. had the top weight among the co-anglers on the first day with 19-12. Kenneth Roderick, Jr. of Putnam, Conn. (17-15) and Jeff Zeisner of Arva, Ontario (17-12) round out the top three.
Mark Vondell of Upper Jay was the top local co-angler with a catch of 12-14 that put him 33rd.
Ron Wolfarth of Oakboro, N.C. grabbed the Big Bass Award among the professionals (6-1), which netted him $264.
Didier Papagouras of Cote Saint-Luc, Quebec earned $176 for the Big Bass Award among the co-anglers (5-4).
The event continues at 6 a.m. today with anglers taking off from Dock Street Landing. The weigh-in will be held at 2 p.m. at the marina.
