PERU — Peru led by just one after the first quarter Thursday but then had a 21-4 spurt in the second to pull away from the Northern Adirondack for a 61-28 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls’ basketball win.
Meghan Mazzella tossed in a game-high 18 points for Peru, and Mary Mazzella added 16 points and five steals. Emily Major scored 12 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Maddy Flynn chipped in five assists.

“With our full-court pressure, we were able to force a lot of turnovers that created a lot of scoring opportunities for us,” Peru coach Dave Baroody said. “Offensively the girls attacked the basket, moved the ball well and finished with confidence.”
Taylor Durnin had nine points for the Bobcats.

SARANAC — The Chiefs spread the ball around in their victory over the Blue Bombers.
Allison Fink paced Saranac with 11 points, and Brittany O’Connell had nine. Kristen Napper and Summer Gillespie added eight points each.
“Brittany O’Connell, who had been injured for the last year-and-a-half, had a nice game. And Allison Fink played with confidence and did a nice job on the offensive glass,” Saranac coach Tim Newell said. “The kids did a nice job sharing the ball — we had balanced scoring. I like where we’re at, and if we continue to work at our defensive intensity, I think we should have a pretty good run come sectional time.”
Adele Jesmer led Lake Placid with nine points.

BEEKMANTOWN — Shannon Ryan and Grace Kelly combined for 45 of the Eagles’ points in their win over the Vikings.
Ryan scored 26, and Kelly hit three 3-pointers on her way to 19 points. Beekmantown led 25-18 at halftime.
“We played a very solid defensive game,” Beekmantown coach Greg Waters said.
Madison Stahl led Moriah with 10 points, Taylor Sprague had eight and Lauren Cross chipped in seven.

PLATTSBURGH — The Hornets (11-3, 10-2) built up a 51-12 lead through three quarters.
Marle Curle led a balanced offensive attack for Plattsburgh with 11 points, and Kaylia Carper tallied 10 off the bench. Olivia Carlsson finished with eight points.
Kylie Austin accounted for nearly half of the Sentinels’ offensive production with 16 points and was followed by Andrea Rich with eight.
“Ticonderoga played hard, but I was pleased with our defense,” Plattsburgh coach Joe Staves said.

SARANAC LAKE — The Red Storm (6-7, 5-6) received balanced offensive production in a win over the Knights.
Megan Kilroy and Remy Orticelle led the way with 10 points each, while Megan Moody and Nicole Viscardo added eight points apiece.
Saranac Lake held a big scoring edge over the first three quarters while taking a 48-19 advantage.
Paige Spittler tallied a game-high 15 points for Seton Catholic, and Samantha Bashaw was next with 10.

PLATTSBURGH — Nic Favreau hit one of two from the foul line with 34 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Seton Catholic boys a win over Saranac Lake.
“It was a good game,” Seton coach Larry Converse said. “We were behind most of the way.
“But we’re getting better. It was a good win for us, and I’m hoping we’re headed in the right direction.”
Adam Tedford led the Knights (5-10, 2-9) with 17 points. Keagen Briggs and Chris Kustos each added 10 points, with Kustos getting 13 rebounds. Kaden Baugh finished with nine points and five assists.
Kellen Munn paced the Red Storm with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Teddy Yanchitis was next with 14 points, and Thomas Lester added 12.
Saranac Lake jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the first quarter and held the advantage through the rest of the opening half and deep into the second half.
“We were down 51-49 with 3:04 left,” Converse said. “Tedford then hit a 2-pointer that tied it for us, and then Baugh hit a three that gave us a 54-51 lead with 2:03 left.
“But (Devin) Cowan hit a three for them that made it 54-all with 42 seconds left. That’s when Favreau was fouled and hit 1-of-2 to give us the lead. In the closing seconds, we missed a free throw, but they weren’t able to get off a good shot.”
