SYRACUSE — Saranac and Ticonderoga each placed four all-stars on the spring all-state teams for softball and baseball. In all, Section VII teams earned 16 all-state selections.
The all-state teams were chosen by the New York State Sports Writers Association and The New York State Coaches, Officals for Girls Sports (NYSCOGS).
Section VII baseball rated 16 all-state selections, while softball collected three state honors.
The Ticonderoga Sentinels, who won their eighth straight Section VII Class C championship, landed three on the all-state baseball team. Junior Tanner Wright, who starred on the mound for the Sentinels, was the lone First Team selection for the section. Wright, who posted a 4-1 record with a 1.58 earned-run average, tossed a 1-0 shutout at Norwood-Norfolk in regional play.
Two of Wright’s teammates also earned all-state honors. Miles Wright, a junior shortstop-pitcher, landed on the Second Team, Class C, while Nate Lenhart, a senior centerfielder-pitcher, was placed on the Third Team. Wright and Lenhart led the Sentinels in hitting with identical .451 averages.
The Saranac Chiefs, who won the Class B baseball banner, put three players on the Class B All-State Team. Senior Kasey Favreau, who was the Most Valuable Player in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, was named to the Second Team. He posted a 5-1 pitching record with a 2.92 ERA and also led the Chiefs in hitting, batting .509 with 20 runs batted in.
Sophomore Tanner Rascoe, who compiled a 3-0 record, with an amazing 0.61 ERA, was chosen for the Fifth Team while senior catcher Ben Weightman made the Sixth Team. Weightman batted .409 with 3 home runs and ended his career with 85 hits.
Beekmantown’s Luke Weaver, a senior shortstop-pitcher, was a three-time CVAC all-star who displayed his exceptional speed by swiping 33 out of a possible 34 bases. Weaver was named to the Third Team for Class B.
Austin Bradish, a junior catcher-third baseman for Beekmantown, joined Weightman on the Sixth Team. He batted .423 with 22 hits.
Plattsburgh High senior catcher Chris Roenbeck, who batted .465 with 5 homers and 30 RBI, was placed on the Class B Fourth Team while Northeastern Clinton’s Liam McDonough, who posted a 4-1 record on the mound, earned Seventh Team honors.
Crown Point, the Class D champ, had two representatives on the All-State Team. Senior Nate Tabor, who was 9-0 pitching and batted .439 with 18 RBI, was named to the Second Team while junior teammate Jon Spaulding, who hit at a .490 clip with 31 RBI, landed on the Third Team.
Hunter Mowery, a senior pitcher-infielder for Elizabethtown-Lewis, made the Fourth Team. The Lions’ standout nearly took out favored Crown Point in the Class D final, driving in two runs with two hits and striking out 10 in the 6-5 loss.
3 SOFTBALL STARS CITED
Section VII’s softball all-staters — all Fifth-Team picks — came from three teams. Saranac senior shortstop Alisha Ducatte was named in Class B, Ticonderoga junior pitcher Jordan McKee landed on the Class C squad and Crown Point junior pitcher Alex Macey was tabbed in Class D.
Ducatte batted .357 and was a defensive standout for the Chiefs. McKee posted a 7-3 record for the Sentinels, while Macey was 14-1 in the circle for the Panthers.
