HOUGHTON — Llaney Hernandez placed 25th out of 130 finishers and teammate Josh Cook came in 27th to lead North Country Community College to a 12th-place finish in the Houghton Highlander Invitational cross-country meet Saturday.
SUNY Brockport won the team competition with 19 points, with SUNYIT totalling 100; Oswego, 116; RIT, 129; and SUNY Morrisville, 163; rounding out the top five. North Country finished with 269 points to beat out Alfred, Finger Lakes CC and Mercyhust Northeast in the 15-team scoring field.
Hernandez completed the 8-kilometer course in 28 minutes, 4 seconds. Cook was timed in 28:10. The Saints’ Jeremy Jones was 45th with a personal-best of 29:22.
Jordan Haviland (81, 32:34) and Zach Peltier (91, 34:48) rounded out the NCCC scorers. Jake Kent (97, 36:58) and Chris Elliott (98, 43:09) also completed the race.
NCCC’s two women finished with seasonal records for a 5k course. Kaylan Short ran a 24:36 to come in 100th, and Clarissa Mango placed 109th out of 116 with a time of 26:04.
The North Country teams will travel to Newburgh on Saturday to compete in the Mount Saint Mary’s College Invitational.
