Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

Kevin O'Neill leaves Northwestern University to become an assistant coach with the New York Knicks.

Elyse Lafountain scores twice in Northeastern Clinton's 2-0 win over Malone in the Parker Brothers/ Lady Cougars soccer final.

Samantha Brow and Nikki Lopez score goals to lead AuSable Valley to a 2-0 victory over Peru in the Saranac girls' soccer tourney final.

Brian Kourofsky scores from Joe Kourofsky to give Northern Adirondack a 1-0 win over Chazy in the Seton Catholic boys' soccer final. Jamie Gilmore has 9 saves for the shutout.

Dain Venne runs for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns in Moriah's 40-25 season-opening win over PHS. Matt Rivers rushes for 125 yards and one TD for the Hornets.

David LaPlant scores 4 TDs in Malone's 46-14 thrashing of Canton.

Tim Arsenault and Josh Jones score touchdowns as Tupper Lake, with only 19 players in uniform, upsets Beekmantown 14-8.

Kelly Duffy and Matt Drowne lead Plattsburgh State to a sweep of the Cardinal Classic cross-country meet.

David Davidson drills 3 homers and Mike Bordeau, Brandy McDonald and Dave Hood each add a round-tripper as the CR Tunes Mudhens beat reigning champ Lyon Mountain 11-4 to claim their first CVBL crown.

20 YEARS AGO (1990)

Scott Baker slugs a long homer in the bottom of the 8th to lift Norm Baker & Sons to a 9-7 win over Custom Canvas in the fifth and deciding game of the Adirondack Slo-Pitch Softball championship series. Steve Criss of Custom Canvas hits a 3-run homer in the seventh to force extra innings. Scott McCormick has 4 hits and Roy Ebersole and Mike Boyea also homer for Baker's while Robin Vaughan goes 3-for-3 in a losing cause.

Heather Holland scores from Jenny Goff to lift Plattsburgh High to a 1-0 win over host Massena in the Autumn Leaves girls' soccer tournament final. Lisa Zaferakis records 19 saves for the shutout.

Katie Nicknish and Stephanie Frobel score goals to give Seton Catholic a 2-0 win over Chateaugay in the Little Caesar's/TC Sports soccer final.

25 YEARS AGO (1985)

Tom Raville beats John Strack 4 and 2 to win the Bluff Point men's club championship. Frank Van Nortwick and Helen Fitzpatrick capture the first mixed pairs title.

Rick Duprey gets 3 hits and Jeff Passino and Jeph Doorey provide some daring base-running to lead Plattsburgh Coca-Cola to a 6-5 win over Shortstop/Cobb's and a repeat as Keeseville Medium-Pitch Softball champions.

Lynn Bechard pitches a shutout and Danny Phillips and Gary Boulrice belt homers as Bowl Mart sweeps Dragoon's to win its second straight Lake Champlain Slo-Pitch Softball crown and fourth in seven years.

Paul Harrica resigns as Clinton CC Athletic Director to accept the position of director of physical education and athletics at Franklin Academy in Malone.

30 YEARS AGO (1980)

John Moss gets 3 hits, with a homer, and 5 RBI to lead Latinville's to a 10-5 series-clinching victory over Clinton Aero in the Adirondack Slo-Pitch Softball League championships.

Former Plattsburgh State soccer star Tom Harrigan is named men's soccer coach at Clinton Community College.

Michele Caron pitches a no-hitter and goes 2-for-3 to lead Lyon Mountain to a 10-0 win over Beekmantown in Babe Ruth softball. Janet Siskavich and Neil LaMare both are 5-for-5 with a homer and 2 triples as Lyon Mountain beats East Morrisonville to wrap up an 11-0 season.

Bluff Point junior champ Kit Cieri, 18, comes back to score a 2-stroke victory over Jim Couts in the Genesee Open.

Mike Lambert goes 4-0 while Ron Goddeau, Tim Jackstadt, Larry Carpenter and Tom Jackstadt add home runs as Plattsburgh wins the New York State Kmart Slo-Pitch Softball title.

Steve Tolosky's two-out RBI single lifts Cider Shed to a 6-5 win over The Icemen in the Peru Slo-Pitch Softball championship game.

40 YEARS AGO (1970)

Dick Nephew is the first to win three features for the season at Adirondack Raceway with Dave Gaul, second, and Dick Fowler, third.

Roger Barnard pitches a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts as East Morrisonville defeats Peru 4-0. Dave Duprey tosses a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a losing effort. Tom Golden has the only hit.

Joan Goodspeed beats Eleanor Berger 4 and 2 to win the Bluff Point women's title.

50 YEARS AGO (1960)

Gretchen Siegel defeats Eleanor Washbourne on the first hole of their sudden-death playoff to win the Bluff Point Women's Club Championship.

Nitzi Rabin pitches a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts, Steve Kistner goes 4-for-5 and Mike Maille is 2-for-2 as the American Little League All-Stars thump their National counterparts 12-2.

National Sportsman points leader Bill Wimble wins the 35-lap Northeastern New York Championship at Airborne Speedway. Buck Holiday, Ernie Reid, Charlie Trombley and Jean Cabana round out the top five.

60 YEARS AGO (1950)

Paul "Moose" Woerner, football coach at Champlain College, looks forward to building for the future with the school now a member of the State University of New York system.

Plattsburgh outhits Seneca Falls 6-5 but loses 4-1 in the Upstate New York Championship game for the Kiwanis Grasshopper League.

Lindy Tull of Tupper Lake is in the starting backfield at Cornell University.

70 YEARS AGO (1940)

Former Northern League standout Steve Peek beats the Jersey City Giants 6-1 for his 12th consecutive victory for the Newark Bears of the International League.

Chet Taylor shoots a 32 on the back nine on the Hotel Champlain course to beat the old record of 33 he shared with Tim Gagen. Taylor birdies the 14th and 18th and eagles the 12th.
