Chateaugay girls open with a tie

CANTON — Chateaugay and Huevelton battled to a 1-1 overtime stall Saturday in nonleague girls' soccer action at Canton.

Hannah Cook scored for the Bulldogs one minute into the second half on an assist from Raquel Fowler, knotting the game at 1-1.

Huevelton's Abbey Basford netted a goal at the 11-minute mark of the first half.

Danielle Tani got the assist on Basford's goal.

"We have a good, young defense," Chateaugay coach Steve Lang said. "I thought they played very well."

MaKayla Fleury and Shelby Coleman split time in net for the Bulldogs, totaling eight saves.

Saynna Jacquith was Huevelton's goalkeeper and made four saves.

"Fowler, Alexis Beach and Sarah Gardiner had outstanding games," Lang said. "It was a good start for Chateaugay."
