Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

Dannemora soccer sign-up Aug. 4

DANNEMORA — The Town of Dannemora will hold a soccer sign-up on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lyon Mountain Fire Station. Boys and girls ages 3 to 15 in Chazy Lake, Lyon Mountain, Merrill and Standish are eligible to participate.

Sign-up can also be done by calling Stacey Siskavich (Town Soccer Coordinator) at 735-4691 or Kris Bowman at 492-7541 ext. 101.

Team age breakdown: Mini-mites, 3 to 5; Mites, 6 to 8; Pee Wee, 9 to 11; Bantams 12-15. Mini-mites and Mites play 7-on-7, Bantams play 6-on-6 and the Pee Wee level is 11-on-11. All teams are co-ed, and the season starts in early September. Proof of age for all participants is required.

 

PHS sets fall sports clearance schedule

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh High School fall sports clearance will run from Aug. 10 to 16.

Athletes due for a yearly physical should arrange to have this done with their family health care provider before the sports clearance date. School physical exams will be available on Aug. 15 and 16 by appointment only. Athletes who had a physical exam over the summer need to bring in a copy of the physical and a new medical history form at the time of clearance. The form is available on the PHS website under “online forms”.

Athletes who have asthma and use an inhaler must have a yearly medication form completed by their family health care provider. The same applies for an EpiPen. Athletes cannot be fully cleared until we have the M.D. order for inhalers and EpiPens.

Football practice begins Aug.13. All other practices start Aug. 15.

8 to10 a.m.- varsity football

10 a.m. to noon- JV football

1 to 3 p.m.- physical exams, football only

Monday, Aug. 13

8 to 10 a.m.- varsity boys soccer

10 a.m. to noon- JV boys soccer

1 to 2 p.m.- varsity girls soccer

2 to 3 p.m.- JV girls soccer

*Interim Histories only; no physical exams

Tuesday, Aug. 14

8 to 10- varsity volleyball

10 to noon- JV volleyball

1 to 2:30 p.m.- gymnastics/cross country/cheerleading

2:30 to 3:30 p.m.- girls swim

*Interim Histories only; no physical exams

Wednesday, Aug. 15

8 to 10 a.m.- Catch-up and physical exams

*Interim History; physical exams by appointment

Thursday, Aug. 16

8 a.m. to noon- Interim History catch-up day for anyone who missed clearance date and physical exams by appointment.

 

Ameri-Can North offering speed training

PLATTSBURGH — The Ameri-Can North Sports Center is offering Technique Speed Training — power moves, puckhandling, shooting, bungie cords and more. This is the largest hockey school in North America, with over 175 programs. Mites through high school players are welcome and urged to sign up now.
