Adams Glass lets one slip away

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Colchester rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning Saturday and held on for a 6-3 victory over Adams Glass in the Vermont Senior Babe Ruth state baseball tournament.

Adams Glass (14-11-2), 1-1 in the double-elimination event, had its winning streak come to an end and will play the winner of the Lyndon/Middlebury game at 11 a.m. today, with the winner taking on Colchester in the 2 p.m. finals.

Adams Glass held a 3-2 lead entering the seventh when Jared Cayla doubled in two runs and Pat Walker singled in another.

Cayla and Walker rapped out three hits each, with Cayla getting two doubles, in a 9-hit Colchester attack. Chris Poirier, the second of three Colchester pitchers, picked up the win.

Adams Glass had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a nice running catch in right field ended the game.

Nick Uliva, Kyle Sprague and Austin House led Adams Glass with two hits each. The Peru-based team finished with nine hits in all, with Conor Casey, Garrett McLean and Luis Pepen Matos getting singles.

Pepen Matos pitched into the seventh inning while taking the loss.
