Weekly fun run attracts over 200
 
CADYVILLE — After weeks of high temperatures, the cooler weather brought out over 200 runners for the weekly Healthy Heart Fun Runs at the Cadyville Recreation Center. It included over 80 runners in the kids’ runs.
 
Brady McCarty won the one-quarter mile in 2:09 and Eamon Graves the one-half mile in 3:33. The winner of the one-mile run was Alex Marciniak in 7:19, with the first female being Rachael Woodruff in 8:01.
 
Once again, former Beekmantown standout and this year’s Plattsburgh Half Marathon winner Jeremy Drowne was first in the 5K in 17:11. Kathy Champagne was the first female, finishing 13th overall in 20:42.
 
There are two more runs left in the series, which are free and open to all runners of any ability level.

Bicycle time trials held
 
PLATTSBURGH — The Bicycle Time Trials, with distances of five miles, 10 miles and 25 miles, take place Wednesday nights at the Point au Roche firehouse on the Lake Shore Road. The event is free and open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road.
 
Sign-ups start at 5:30 p.m., with the first rider going out at 6 p.m. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Craig Wood ladies capture golf title
 
LAKE PLACID — The Craig Wood ladies’ golf team competed in the 81st-Annual Northern New York Golf Tournament, held in Massena on Wednesday, July 25 and took first place over eight other teams participating.
 
Craig Wood’s Lynn Galm won medalist honors with a tournament low gross of 79, followed by Sheila Preston, who was the runner-up with an 80. Craig Wood’s six-lowest scores combined to defeat the defending champions from the Malone Golf Club by nine strokes.
 
Other contributors to the victory were Peg O’Grady with an 82, Cheryl Pfeifer with an 84, which also earned low net honors, Liz Jaques with a 96 and Judy Shea a 100. Two other members of the team included Bunny Torrence and Cora Turnbull, who won low net in the super senior division.
 
It was the seventh time Craig Wood has won the tournament in its 19-year history. The other teams who competed included Malone, Massena, Canton, Potsdam, Ogdensburg, Gouverneur, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake. Next year’s competition will be hosted by Saranac Lake.

Dannemora holding youth soccer sign-ups
 
DANNEMORA — The Dannemora Youth Commission is holding youth soccer sign-ups at the Village Community Center, 40 Emmons Street, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Clinton County Youth Bureau is requiring proof of age, so a copy of the child’s birth certificate must be submitted if not previously submitted for the baseball/softball sign-ups.
 
The youth commission is also having a beginner’s strength training (weight lifting) for students entering grades 8 through 12. There is a mandatory parent/guardian informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1, at the community center for students interested in the program.
 
NCGC to hold Junior Golf School
 
ROUSES POINT — The Future Stars Advanced Golf School will be held at North Country Golf Club, and will be instructed by Dustin Beauregard and his professional staff. The staff of instructors bring a combined 50 years of experience to the school which is designed for the more experienced junior golfer.
 
Typically taking part in the school are golfers currently playing high school golf, planning to play for their high schools, and high school golfers who are looking to play in college.
 
There will be two sessions available: Aug. 6 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Aug. 20 to 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is per golfer is $400 for five days and there will be match and stroke play tournaments, extensive swing analysis, a minimum of two hours of range instruction each day, a round of golf with instruction following, golf shirt, golf balls, hat, lunch/beverage daily, and barbeque with awards on the final day.

Massena to host senior golf championships
 
MASSENA — On Thursday, Aug. 9, the Northern New York Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be held at the Massena Country Club. Community Bank N.A. will sponsor the event. The tournament will have over $3,500 in prizes to be awarded to the net, gross and special prize winners. Last year, over 170 golfers took part.
 
The tournament will be divided into six flights: ages 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-60; 70-74; and 75 and older. Prizes will be awarded to both net and gross winners.
 
The day will begin with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start and conclude with a dinner and awards ceremony at approximately 5:30 p.m. The entry fee includes the cart fee and is $47 for Massena Country Club member and $65 for non-members. For those would want to walk, the fee is $35 for members and $50 for non-members. The entry fee covers the entire day’s activities.

K of C, Red Cross golf tourney Aug. 15
 
PERU — The 16th-annual Knights of Columbus Council 6067/American Red Cross Golf Classic will be held Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Adirondack Golf and Country Club. There will be an 11 a.m. shotgun start.
 
The four-person scramble has many giveaways, including four hole-in-one chances and a $50 Callaway golf gift card for each golfer. There are still some openings remaining. Local cyclists compete in state championships
 
CAMBRIDGE — North Country cyclists competed at the New York State Time Trial Championships held on Sunday, July 22. The races were open to non-New York state residents, but only New York residents were eligible for championship medals. Full results can be found at http://fastalracing.com/NYSTTResults12.pdf.
 
Chazy’s Jeff Krywanczyk and Team Wear on Earth won first place overall and the gold in category 4/5. Malone’s Chad Tavernia and Team Placid Planet member took fourth in category 5 (not a championship category)
 
Potsdam’s Scott Bollt took fourth overall and bronze in the Junior Boys 13-14.
 
Plattsburgh’s Shannan Keysor and Maui North member finished second overall and gold in Junior Girls 15-18.
 
Ian Zdgiebloski of Lake George/Northwood School and Team Placid Planet, placed third overall and bronze in Junior Boys 15-18. Plattsburgh’s Ed Armstrong was third overall and bronze in Men’s Masters 35-39. Sabine Amoriell of Peru and Team Placid Planet was first overall and gold in Women’s Masters 40-44.
 
Erik Bollt of Potsdam and Clarkson University was second overall and silver in the Men’s Masters 45-49. Susanna Piller of Plattsburgh and Farm Team Elite Women’s Cycling member was third overall and silver in the Women’s Masters 45-49. Jim Walker of Elizabethtown and Team Placid Planet was first overall and gold in the Men’s Masters 50-54.
 
Bob Tysen of Lake Placid and Team Placid Planet member was fourth overall and bronze in the Men’s Masters 55-59. Scott Woodward of Port Kent and Team Placid Planet member was fourth overall in the Men’s Masters 55-59. Lynne Murray of Plattsburgh and Maui North member was third overall third and bronze in the Women’s Masters 55-59.
 
Rally for the Lake to be held Aug. 18
 
CHATEAUGAY LAKE — The Rally for the Lake 5K and 1-mile walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 18. It will be followed by a cookout and swim on the grounds of historic Camp Jeanne D’Arc.
 
Race-day registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will begin at 9:30 a.m. Call 735-4385 or register at www.tinyurl.com/rallyforthelake2012. The event is a benefit for Eurasian water milfoil control.
