Lennon 16th at nationals

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Dan Lennon competed his junior track season by finishing 16th overall in the boys' 2-mile championship run at the New Balance Track and Field Outdoor Nationals Friday.

Lennon competed in the first of two heats and crossed the line seventh with a time of 9 minutes, 27 seconds. He finished just ahead of Michael Crozier of Arlington Va., who was clocked at 9:27:77.

The Peru native had hoped to run under 9 minutes at the meet and was on pace to finish in 9:03:02 at the 1-mile mark before falling off of his pace over the next mile.

Ammar Moussa of Arcadia, Calif. took the top overall position in a time of 8:51:08. Chad Noelle of Greene, who was the only small-school runner to finish ahead Lennon at the NYSPHSAA meet, placed fifth overall in a time of 9:02:71.

Both Lennon and Noelle ran faster at the NYSPHSAA meet last week, with Noelle clocking 8:59:03 and Lennon crossing in 9:09:37.

This was Lennon's first appearance in the outdoor national meet in just his second season running track.
