Don’t state as a fact something that is unsubstantiated or that our editors wouldn't know to be true.

Don’t presume someone’s guilt in a case when it hasn't been established by a court.

Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

We monitor comments Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Approval of comments outside these times may be delayed.

10 YEARS AGO (1999/2000)
MVP Rob Bessette scores 3 goals to lead Malone to a 6-3 victory over host Chicopee (Mass.) in a hockey tournament final.

NAC's Brad Trombley goes 5-0 at 119 pounds while Chris Trombley picks up his 100th career win in the Mid-Hudson Wrestling Tournament.

Nate Bilow tallies 30 points to lead tourney host Chateaugay past Willsboro 85-70. Daron Tracy tosses in 18 for the Bulldogs.

MVP Jed Sprague scores 12 points and blocks 7 shots to lead Moriah to an 82-59 win over host Crown Point in the tourney final. Jeff Ross leads the Panthers with 29 points.

Gayle Peryea explodes for 40 points and grabs 20 rebounds to lead AuSable Valley past Chazy 72-37 in the E'town-Lewis final.

Dan Broderick reaches 1,000 points for his career in Westport's 64-48 win over AuSable Valley, but the Eagles fall to host Saranac 63-45 in the final. Steve Yaeger's 22 points lead the Chiefs.

20 YEARS AGO (1989/1990)
Christine Beebie scores 22 points and collects 15 rebounds in Beekmantown's 46-38 win over Saranac.

Frank Tierney, thrust into a starting role because of an injury, responds with a 20-point effort to lead Ticonderoga to a 68-42 win.

25 YEARS AGO (1984/1985)
Brent Rushlaw and Ed Card win the 2-man U.S. Federation Cup at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

John Speziali comes up with seven steals as Schroon Lake rallies to beat host Salmon River 40-38 in the final. Billy Welch also comes up with some clutch rebounds for the Wildcats. Paul Ghostlaw leads the Shamrocks with 22 points.

Matt Laramee scores 3 goals and Troy Farmer adds a goal and three assists to lead Saranac Lake to a 7-4 victory over Lake Placid. Brian McCarthy is credited with three assists for the Redskins.

30 YEARS AGO (1979/1980)
Jamie Douglass sinks 2 free throws with 2 seconds left to give AuSable Valley a 56-55 win over seventh-ranked Silver Creek in the final of the Saranac Lake Christmas Tournament.

MVP Joe Porcelli tallies 14 points, Paul Einsmann adds 11 and Danny Theiss, 10, as Plattsburgh State dumps Binghamton 53-47 in the final of the Brooklyn College tourney.

Jack Bartoszek scores 2 goals to spur host MAI to a 5-2 victory over Northern Adirondack in the hockey tourney final.

MVP Randy Salerno hits for 30 points in Moriah's 68-56 win over Ticonderoga in the Viking tourney championship.

MVP Jon Ford scores 26 points and grabs 19 rebounds to lead St. John's over host Malone 57-53 in the final. Kevin Walbridge nets 23 for Malone.

Don Schryer and Kirk Charlton each score 20 points as Crown Point defeats Lake Placid 59-45. Ken Reid scores 24 for the Blue Bombers.

40 YEARS AGO (1969/1970)
Mike Yelle and Mike Francis each score 17 points to lead Plattsburgh High to a 74-53 win over Champlain in the final of the PHS Holiday Festival. Brian Anctil scores 19 and Jon O'Brian, 15, for the Rockets.

Scott Burns scores 3 goals to lead The Montcalmers over Lyon Mountain in North Country Hockey League play.

John Drinkwine scores 24 points and Zane Hathaway, 22, as Crown Point knocks off previousy unbeaten Westport in the final of the MVL Holiday tourney. Dwayne Floyd leads the Eagles with 16.

Junior Bill Finney nets 13 points in Syracuse's 94-83 victory over Providence.

Ross French scores 15 points as Bolton beats Horicon 50-32 to win the Crown Point Tournament. Bob Raymond nets 22 to lead Pottersville to a 59-49 win over Crown Point.

MVP Pat Gregory tallies 16 points to lead St. John's to a 58-57 win over MAI in the Flynn Alumni final. Wayne Lashway scores 13 for MAI.

50 YEARS AGO (1959/1960)
Bob LaMare nets 27 to lead St. John's to a 69-45 win over Bellows Free Academy of St. Albans, Vt.

Harlan Rock scores 12 points as the Peru Alumni defeat the Peru Faculty 83-79. Mike Beauvais leads the faculty with 21 while Harney Davey scores 20.

Tim Murnane tallies 20 points and Fuzzy Fesette hits for 18, as St. John's beats Plattsburgh High 79-64 to win the March of Dimes Alumni Tournament for the third year in a row. Bill Benson scores 15 points for the Hornet grads and Ron LaPorte, 14.

60 YEARS AGO (1949/1950)
Giles Maloney scores 31 and Francis Latourelle, 27, as Keeseville tops the AuSable Legion 86-43.

A lack of snow forces postponement of the dedication of the new Whiteface Mountain Ski Center.

Tony Lemza scores 11 points to lead Port Henry past Burlington 34-25.

70 YEARS AGO (1939/1940)
Paul scores 16 points to lead Dannemora State Hospital to a 32-28 victory over Shelton Service. Bremser nets 12 for Shelton's.
