It was truly a year to remember for area cross country.
Section VII played host to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Championships for the third time — and the first in Plattsburgh. More than 1,100 runners from across the state converged on Plattsburgh State Nov. 14 for the biggest single sports event ever staged in Plattsburgh. It produced memorable moments — the amazing sweep of the top five places in girls' Class AA by Fayetteville-Manlius, the repeat of Seton Catholic standout Michael Champagne and the fifth-place finish by the Beekmantown boys in Class B.
Area runners left their mark on the cross-country campaign well before the state meet. For a look at the all-stars, see Page B8.
