10 YEARS AGO (1999)
Michelle Fortier scores 21 points to lead Plattsburgh High past Beekmantown 55-34.

Mike Dragoon and Chris Roach score goals and Joel Siskavich makes 23 saves as St. John's ties Vermont hockey power Essex Junction 2-2.

Gouverneur ends Malone's 64-match conference winning streak in wrestling with a 41-25 victory. Jacob Dumas, Tyler McGibbon and Ed Barnett record pins for the Huskies.

Brad Manor scores 35 points to power unbeaten Northern Adirondack to a 70-67 win over Peru.

20 YEARS AGO (1989)
Rusty Bigelow's base-line jumper at the buzzer gives Saranac a 50-49 win over Seton Catholic. Scott Silva nets 20 for the Knights.

Josh Feitshans scores 28 points to lead Keene over Chazy 66-57. Cliff Hay leads Chazy with 20.

Kelly Barnes sinks a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Chateaugay a 43-40 win over Brushton-Moira. Marilyn Cowan chips in with 11 points and 18 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Richard Ashline and Reid Crosby score 16 points apiece and Mark Sawyer is the defensive standout as Beekmantown dumps PHS 56-49. David Garrant nets 17 for PHS.

Robin Rovers scores with 7 seconds left in overtime as Chazy upsets Crown Point 37-36 in girls' basketball.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Tracey Damigella, 16, of Lake Placid wins the Junior Ladies title in the Eastern U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Walt Worth fires in 34 points as Crown Point rallies from 15 points down to defeat Dannemora 59-58. Chris LaRose leads the Knights with 24.

Melina Higgins, Peggy Corrigan and Lisa Dimick lead Peru to a sweep of the CVAC and Section VII Class B volleyball crowns while Northern Adirondack, paced by Missy LaGree, Karen Siskavich and Amanda LeClair, takes Class C.

Dana Shaughnessy scores 17 points as Schroon Lake knocks off Crown Point 69-52.

Matt Laramee and Jeff Yorkey each score twice and Scott LaMay, Brett Piro and Brian Huyck add goals as Saranac Lake skates to a 7-3 win over St. John's.

30 YEARS AGO (1979)
Elizabethtown-Lewis standout Jay Hooper is named to the Second Team All-State in boys' soccer.

Scott Rock, 119 pounds, is named the Most Outstanding Wrestler while teammates Jeff Rascoe (112) and Steve Delaney (145) win their weight classes to help Saranac take second in the North Country Invitational, the Chiefs' best showing ever.

Larry Ewald receives All-East honorable mention after leading Holy Cross in rushing with 614 yards and in kickoff returns, with 424 on 19 attempts.

Guy Garrow scores 27 points as Plattsburgh High tops MAI 57-55 in double overtime. Jeff Law leads the Mounties with 20 after John Thompson fouls out with 1:05 to play in regulation.

Mike Rider scores 21 points and pulls down 19 rebounds and Jeff Whittemore grabs 15 caroms as Elizabethtown-Lewis easily beats Dannemora 79-54 in a battle of MVAC unbeatens. Mike Weaver scores 27 for the Knights.

Charlie Grogan has 24 points,11 rebounds and 5 blocks in unbeaten Malone's 70-53 win over Saranac Lake. Kyle Munn nets 14 in a losing cause.



40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Jim Lacey tallies 48 points to lead the Rouses Point Rangers to a 125-103 victory over Ticonderoga, despite John Young's 53-point game.

Steve Wood scores 20 points and Mike Francis, 18, as PHS defeats Mineola 80-58. Pete Forrence leads Peru with 15 points as the Indians complete the North Country sweep by beating Kennedy-Bellmore 54-44.

Dwayne Floyd nets 29 points and Adolfo Ariztisable adds 23 as Westport nips Willsboro 85-84 in double overtime in a clash of unbeatens. Greg Redmond's free throw with 4 seconds left decides the contest.

Larry Carpenter scores 21 points, Bob Watson, 18, and John Hart, 12, as St. John's edges previously unbeaten Moriah 66-64. New York City transfer Ellie Rodriguez gives the Irish a big game on the boards.

Rocco Pepin pumps in 25 points to lead St. Joseph's of Malone to an 86-71 win over Lyon Mountain. Roger Rascoe scores 19 for the Miners.

50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Joe Velsini's 24 points pace Port Henry to an 80-57 victory over Ticonderoga. Shaw scores 13 for Ti.

Don Connors' basket with 2 seconds to play lifts St. Joseph's to a 57-56 win over St. John's.

Joe Gregory scores 24 points in Schroon Lake's 60-44 win over Moriah. Dave Deyo nets 15 in a losing cause.

Bob Tacy tosses in 29 for Dannemora in a 72-32 win over Altona.

60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Melvin DuBrey of Ellenburg Depot, with 7 pelts, wins the county's annual fox trapping contest.

Hal McCready scores 16 points to lead PHS past Ticonderoga 63-51. Carl Bevilacqua leads Ti with 15.

A record 5,868 bucks are taken in the Adirondacks with Plattsburgh's Ralph Gibson winning the Trudeau Big Buck Contest in Saranac Lake with a 245-pound, 8-pointer.

Lloyd LaBarge burns the nets for 46 points as Ellenburg defeats Champlain 93-61 in a Champlain Valley League game.

70 YEARS AGO (1939)
Douglas Henry scores 24 points to lead Port Henry to a 24-23 win over Crown Point.

Joe Telesky nets 14 as Mineville turns back Plattsburgh High 33-22.
