MALONE — The Franklin Community Youth Organization's 44th Basketball Season started off with intense action Saturday as Ogdensburg, Bangor, and St. John Bosco pulled through with victories on opening day.



Ogdensburg 84
Maranatha 39

The Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, coached by Tom Luckie Jr., showed that they might be the team to beat this year in CYO action. Displaying a well-balanced attack with five players in double figures, they jumped to an early lead and maintained it throughout the contest. Foster Ebersole scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the first half. He also had 11 rebounds, seven assists, and six steals.

Maranatha, again coached by Tony Marciniak, was led by Tyler Childs with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Bangor 2

Peru 0
Bangor, coached by Todd Martin, picked up win number one by forfeit over no-show Peru.



St. John Bosco 59
Jean's Quik Stop 41

St. John Bosco, coached by Perry Tatro for more than 30 years, was led by Chris Picaro who scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for a double double. Corey LaMere added 15 points and hauled in seven rebounds, while Alex LaFlesh added nine points. Brandon Picaro turned in an excellent floor game, with six points, ten rebounds, and seven assists.

Jean's, coached by Bob Oliver and Kris Chase, was led by Bryant Reome with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Joshua Hyde added 14. Jean's led 40-38 going into the fourth quarter, but lost its shooting touch with only one free throw in the final stanza.

In Splinter action, St. John Bosco edged North Star and Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club bested Bangor. Bosco was led by Gage Gardner with 12, John Picaro with 10, and Brandon Picaro with nine. North Star was led by Nick Nemier with seven points.

In the second contest, OBGC was led by Jordan Fifield with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while David Tomford added 12. Bangor was led by Mike Mendoza with eight and Ryan Jacque with seven steals.
