CHAMPLAIN — Beekmantown took advantage of its height Thursday — especially when Northeastern Clinton lost its big man.
Thomas Ryan had 19 points as the Eagles knocked off the Cougars 54-51 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys' basketball.
The Cougars led by two heading into the fourth quarter but quickly got into foul trouble.
"My center, Steven Carder, fouled out with 6:30 left in game, which hurt," Northeastern Clinton coach Robb Garrand said. "Beekmantown took total advantage of the size. They were much more aggressive on the boards."
Malo Valerien had 17 points for Beekmantown, and Devon Anderson scored eight.
"It was very, very difficult to stop Malo on his perimeter game," Garrand said. "He continued to be a mental threat for us, and that created scoring opportunities for their post players down low."
Connor Chapman led the Cougars with 15 points. Carder and Tom Bedard both scored 12.
"I was pleased with my freshman, Tom Bedard, tonight," Garrand said. "He did a good job attacking the basket."

PLATTSBURGH — The Indians jumped out to a 30-10 lead at the half and defeated the rival Hornets.
Robert Duquette poured in 28 points to lead Peru and Kaleb Gohlke followed with 18. Will Flynn chipped in with nine.
"Duquette and Gohlke are going to be a tough tandem to stop this year," said PHS coach Chris Hartmann.

"Peru came out very aggressively, with in your face defense," said Hartmann. "And, our guys backed down.
"But, I give our guys credit for coming back in the second half. We cut it down to four points at one time, but we dug too much of a hole for ourselves.
"Jordan Knight had a big game for us, but we have to do better than three points in the first quarter."
