Basketball
The Most Valuable Players in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference last season are now starring for the Sage Colleges in the Capital District area. They recently earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week honors.

Kara Hackett (Peru/Peru) of Russell Sage College was recognized for the week ending Nov. 23 after averaging 15.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Gators.

Matt Farbotko (Rouses Point/Northeastern Clinton) of Sage College earned rookie of the week for Nov. 30 after scoring 18 points and pulling down 7 rebounds in the Gators' 84-80 loss on the road to Mass. College of Liberal Arts.

The Sage Colleges men's team opened play in the Skyline Conference last week with a 77-74 win over Bard College on the road. Freshman forward Farbotko contributed 10 points to help Sage to the first win over a Division III program under the direction of rookie head coach Brian Barnes.

Farbotko leads the Gators (2-5) in field-goal percentage (.625, 35 for 56), rebounds (7.6 per game) and blocked shots (7) is second in scoring average (11.9).

Hackett scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in The Sage Colleges' 79-76 win over Purchase College. Sage is now 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Hackett leads the Gators in field-goal percentage (.514, 37 for 72), is second in free-throw percentage (.720, 18 for 25) and scoring (11.5 points per game). She is also second in rebounding (7.9 a game) while leading the team in steals (24) and blocked shots (8).

Indoor Track & Field
Several former CVAC standouts competed in the Cornell Relays, which featured Div. I and Div. III athletes.

Sophomore Lee Berube (Putnam Station/Ticonderoga) of SUNY Geneseo posted an NCAA provisional qualifying and school record time of

14:30.89 in winning the 5,000 meters. His brother, Jesse, placed seventh in 15:39.16 while another former Ticonderoga star, Lee Gabler, came in seventh in the 3,000 meters in 9:03.52.

Junior Kyle Devins (Peru/AuSable Valley) of Ithaca College placed 4th in the triple jump behind all Division 1 jumpers with a leap of 45 feet, 9.25 inches and 12th in the long jump with an effort of 21 feet, 1.5 inch.

Sophomore Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/ Lake Placid) of Ithaca placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:57.12.

Junior Connie Belkevich (Ticonderoga/Ticonderoga) of SUNY Oneonta was 11th in the 300-meter run at 43.29 and 15th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.25.

Freshman Bailey Rabideau (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh High) of Ithaca was a member of the Ithaca 4x400-meter relay team that finished 16th. She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 12.04 seconds.

Football
Junior wide receiver Thomas Vossler (Loon Lake/Saranac Lake) was one of 14 Ithaca College football players to earn a spot on the Empire 8 All-Star Team. Vossler was named to the second team.

Vossler caught a team-high 51 passes; his 14.4 yards per catch and eight touchdowns both led the team as well. He was named the team's Outstanding Back after the Hartwick win and was picked as Ithaca's Honorary Offensive Captain three times — after the Union, Utica and Alfred games. Vossler already ranks 10th all-time at Ithaca with 92 career catches. His 4.4 catches per game is a school record.\

Vossler will enter his senior season eight receptions away from becoming the seventh Bomber to catch 100 passes and 40 shy of the school record held by Abe Ceesay (131 from 1996 to 1999). With 1,267 receiving yards, Vossler ranks 16th (87 yards from 10th) and his nine touchdown catches leave him one short of becoming the 17th Bomber to reach double figures.
