Tupper girls lose opener

BRASHER FALLS — Molly McCuin scored on a putback with seven seconds left to lift St. Lawrence Central to a 35-33 victory over the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks in Northern Athletic Conference girls' basketball Monday night.

The visitors held a five-point lead at one point in the fourth quarter, but Jenna Evans nailed a 3-pointer and McCoin, a 2-pointer, to tie it at 31 with three minutes to play. The game was still deadlocked at 33 when St. Lawrence called a timeout with 17 seconds to play. McCuin then put in the game-winner.

Tupper Lake outscored host St. Lawrence from the field, but made only three of nine free-throw attempts while the Larries were 7-for-10.

McCuin finished with 19 points to lead all scorers.

Taylor Keniston scored 10 points and had eight rebounds for Tupper Lake. Amber Lawyer had five assists.

Tupper Lake will host the Women's Hoop Booster Tournament this weekend. Saranac Lake and Hermon-Dekalb will meet in the 6 p.m. opener Friday with Tupper Lake taking on Salmon River at 7:45 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played Saturday.
