UTICA — North Country Community College was up against it from the start Sunday afternoon.
Not only were the Saints playing back-to-back games for the first time this season, they were taking on the NJCAA Div. III runners-up from a year ago, the Lady Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College.
The outcome was almost predictable: Mohawk Valley 77, North Country 38.
"We were pretty tired from yesterday (a 105-83 loss to Herkimer CC) and the whole experience of the overnight trip, the hotel rooms, back-to-back games ... the girls will have to get used to playing two games on the road," NCCC Coach Jerrad Dumont said.
Then, of course, Mohawk Valley would have been a formidable opponent on the best of days for the Saints (3-4). Mohawk Valley is off to another great start with Sunday's victory giving the Lady Hawks an 8-0 record.
Keonti Powell scored 16 points and Isayra Diaz, 13, to lead Mohawk Valley.
Secoya Wright, with 10 points, was the only player in double figures for NCCC.
