SCHENECTADY — Clinton Community College jumped out to a quick lead Thursday and then cruised to a 70-43 victory over Schenectady Community College in women's basketball.
The Cougars (4-1, 3-0 in Mountain Valley Conference) were in command early, opening a 35-15 advantage by halftime.
"We had a great first half and the second half, we were able to give other kids some playing time," Clinton Coach Donna Dixon said.
"We played really well at the start; good defense. It was our goal to play good, consistent defense and shut them down. And we were able to push the ball up the floor and get some good baskets."
Brittany Godreau, the former Chazy player, scored 19 points to lead Clinton while AuSable Valley's Shannon Nutbrown added 12 and Saranac's Carissa Fournia, 11.
Jellisa Curry, recovering from a bout with the flu, chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds.
Andrea Garcia was credited with nine assists and five rebounds while Johni Rae Coryea had seven assists.
Jocelyn Mann scored 17 points and Leigha Motta, 16, for Schenectady.
The Clinton men and women will be at Cayuga Community College Saturday afternoon.
