Peru Hall of Fame nominations due
PERU — Nominations for The Peru Central Hall of Fame are due by noon Friday, Dec. 11, at the high-school office. Nomination forms can be obtained at the high-school office or by contacting Principal Chris Mazzella, at 643-6401.

Nominees must be retirees, graduates or otherwise not directly affiliated with Peru Central School for at least five years. The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding public service and who have had a significant impact on Peru Central.

An induction ceremony will take place later this school year.

Caldwell named Rookie of the Week
CENTERVILLE, Mass. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference Tuesday announced that Plattsburgh State's Jordan Caldwell has been named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week.

A freshman forward from Arvada, Colo., Caldwell scored her first career goal while on the power play in the Cardinals' 4-1 victory Sunday at Chatham.

Poker Fun Run/Walk Dec. 5
PLATTSBURGH — The Fourth-Annual Poker Fun Run/Walk 5K will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning and ending at Geoffrey's Pub in Plattsburgh. The event starts at noon with registration beginning at 11:15 a.m. The first 50 to register will receive a T-shirt.

The suggested donation is $20 with proceeds to benefit the Christmas Bureau.

It is not a timed event and all runners and walkers are welcome. Along the route, each participant will be issued five playing cards. The person with the best poker hand at the completion of the event will win the pot. Any ties for best hand will share the pot.

Alpha Sigma Phi to Host Bike-athon
PLATTSBURGH — SUNY Plattsburgh's Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity will host a bike-athon to support its national philanthropy, LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Friday, Nov. 20.

The event will begin at noon in Amitie Plaza in front of the Angell College Center and will continue until midnight. The brothers will keep the pedals of a stationary bike moving the entire 12 hours. LIVESTRONG was founded in 1997 by cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong. Since that time, LIVESTRONG has worked to help those who have been affected by cancer.

In support of this mission, Alpha Sigma Phi will seek donations with all proceeds going toward the fight against cancer. The event will also include live music and prize giveaways every hour. Donations will be accepted at the event, and anyone who would like to support LIVESTRONG is encouraged to participate.

Massena Festival to feature dog-sled race
AKWESASNE TERRITORY — Akwesase Mohawk Casino will sponsor the Massena-Dash dog sled race Feb. 6-7 as part of The Greater Massena Area Chamber of Commerce Winter Festival.

The organizing committee has designed the Winter Festival to provide activities for the community and families at a time of the year when people are looking for things to do. The committee is planning a parade, ice sculpting, some ice hockey and other events around town in addition to the dog sled races. The casino will also be hosting a recognition dinner for the dog-sled competitors and their teams on Saturday, Feb. 6, including a key note speaker.

Interested individuals will be hearing more about the schedule of events for the Winter Festival in local television, radio and print media.

Scott Hamilton to return to Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID — Figure-skating icon Scott Hamilton will return to Lake Placid Tuesday, Dec. 29, with a new skating show — Scott Hamilton's Holiday Concert on Ice. The show is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Olympic Center.

For more than 20 years, the Olympic Champion and four-time World and U.S. National Champion wowed audiences with his annual Stars on Ice tour, which kicked off annually in Lake Placid. Several of those performers are set to join the skating legend again including Ekaterina Gordeeva and Steven Cousins. The show will also feature Kimmie Meissner, Jozef Sabovcik and Caryn Kadavy, all skating to music performed by a live band and American Idols Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle.

North Bowl to hold Ebonite Demo Sunday
PLATTSBURGH — North Bowl Lanes will host an Ebonite International Four Brand Demo Sunday with squad times of 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. There will be a maximum of 40 bowlers per squad with the cost $5.

Technical staff will be on hand and bowlers will be able to try out a full line of products from Ebonite.

Potsdam, Skidmore to face off in Placid
LAKE PLACID — Men's Division III ice hockey returns to Lake Placid, Tuesday, Nov. 24, where two NCAA DIII Championship hopefuls will square off in the Olympic Center's 1980 Herb Brooks Arena at 7 p.m.

The Potsdam Bears come to Lake Placid with a young roster, featuring just two seniors, nine juniors, nine sophomores and seven freshmen. Last season, the squad skated to a 6-6-4 conference mark on their way to a 9-12-5 overall record.

Skidmore College finished their 2008-09 season, 8-8-2 in conference play and 13-10-3 overall. The Thoroughbreds will rely on Alex Mykolenko, who led last year's roster in scoring with 10 goals and six assists.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for juniors and seniors. Any students age 12 and under, wearing hockey jerseys will also receive half off the original ticket price.

The 1980 Herb Brooks Arena will host the 2010 NCAA DIII Men's Ice Hockey Championships March 19-20.
