PLATTSBURGH — Final Four weekend is upon us, but we're not talking about March Madness.
Four local sports teams will travel to various parts of New York this weekend to take part in NYSPHSAA semifinals in football and soccer.
It will be a familiar feeling for several players, as all four teams at least made it to the semifinals in 2008.
FOOTBALL
moriah (class D)
The Moriah Vikings will travel to Dietz Stadium in Kingston Friday for a Class D semifinal game. The Vikings will play Section IX's Eldred at 4 p.m.
Last season, the Vikings defeated Tuckahoe to advance to the state title game, which they lost in.
Eldred eliminated the possibility of a semifinal rematch when it defeated Tuckahoe in the quarterfinals, 21-14.
The cost of admission to the semifinal game is $10.
The winner of the game will play the winner of Section IV Groton/Section VI Randolph in the championship game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse Nov. 28.
soccer
seton catholic girls
(class c)
The Seton Catholic girls' soccer team will return to the semifinal game, this time playing Section XI's Stony Brook 9 a.m. Friday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.
Stony Brook defeated Section IX's S.S. Seward, 3-0, in a quarterfinal game.
Seton Catholic will be without eighth-grade phenom Lindsey Bushey, who will be playing in a national tournament with a premier soccer club.
The winner will play the winner of Section III Sauquoit Valley/Section VI Frewsburg in the championship game at SUNY Cortland Nov. 21 at 9 a.m.
chazy girls (Class d)
The Chazy girls' soccer team, a year removed from a failed trip into the state semifinals, will play Section XI's Smithtown-Christian at 9:30 a.m. Friday at SUNY Cortland.
Smithtown-Christian defeated Section II's Northville in quarterfinal action.
The winner of the game will play the winner of Section V Arkport/Section III McGraw in the championship game at Homer High School on Nov. 21.
Chazy boys (Class D)
When the Chazy boys' soccer team takes the field Saturday for the Class D semifinal game at 1 p.m. at the Oneonta Soccer Hall of Fame on field four, its opponent will be all too familiar.
The Eagles play Hamilton, the Section III team that beat Chazy in the championship game last season.
Hamilton defeated Section IV's Margaretville, 2-0, in the quarterfinals this year.
The winner of the game will play the winner of Section Section II Northville/Section V Belfast in the championship game on field one at the Soccer Hall of Fame Nov. 22.
The cost of admission for all soccer semifinals, boys and girls, is $8.
