Maile Sapp posts 3d-best time
PLATTSBURGH — Beekmantown's Maile Sapp ran the third-fastest race among Section VII girls in the New York State cross-country championships Saturday at Plattsburgh State. Her name was omitted from the list printed on Sunday.
The Beekmantown freshman came in 81st out of 134 girls in Class B with a time of 20 minutes, 48.2 seconds for 5,000 meters. It was the third-best time, behind Seton Catholic's Anna Rabideau (19:40.4) and Beekmantown teammate Bailey Weightman (20:29.1).
World Cup slides back in Placid
LAKE PLACID — The U.S. team will return to Lake Placid, site of the 2009 World Championships, this week for the second stop on the bobsled and skeleton World Cup tour.
The U.S. squad claimed four World Championship medals, including the four-man crown last February, making them favorites for gold in all five disciplines.
"Starting the season with some of the best athletes in the world on our home tracks is sure to give us a great deal of momentum heading into the remaining World Cup races and the Olympic Games," said Darrin Steele, USBSF CEO. "We are very excited to be able to start the season on both of our U.S. tracks. Our teams traditionally do very well on these courses, as was seen at last year's World Championships in Lake Placid."
The schedule for the Lake Placid World Cup event is as follows, with all times listed in EST:
Friday, Nov. 20 — Women's Skeleton at 9:30 a.m., Men's Skeleton at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 21 — Men's Two-Man Bobsled at 9:30 a.m., Women's Bobsled at 1:30 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 22 — Men's Four-Man Bobsled at 9:30 a.m., Team Event at 1 p.m.
Peru boys' hoops clinic set
PERU — Peru Central boys in grades 3-6 interested in playing youth basketball are invited to a clinic Saturday at Peru Intermediate school. Grades 3-4 will meet at 10 a.m. and grades 5-6 at noon. Players who have not yet registered can sign up at this time.
The cost is $30 for the season, which includes the initial clinic, practice sessions, game jersey and season games. This weekend's clinic will be hosted by the Peru Modified through Varsity Coaching staff.

Collica on Academic First Team
TROY — Plattsburgh State women's soccer player Kaitlin Collica has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District College Division First Team for the second straight year, according to balloting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the Northeast.
As the only representative from the State University of New York Athletic Conference, Collica advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
A senior defender from Baldwin High School, Collica earned second-team All-SUNYAC honors while scoring two goals and starting in all 19 of the Cardinals' games. She helped the team record six shutouts, go 3-1-1 against Top 25 teams as part of a 10-6-3 overall record, peak at No. 11 in the national rankings and qualify for its first NCAA Division III Championship tournament appearance since 1995. She has 3.83 cumulative grade-point average as a nursing major, and volunteers to help raise money for several charities.

Junior Cards win twice
PLATTSBURGH — Christian Thomas scored twice and added an assist to lead the Junior Cards to a 6-1 victory over Massena on Sunday 6-1 in youth hockey. Chase Bedore added a pair and an assist while Luke Carpenter and Ian Urquhart rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Cole Harvey turned away 24 shots for the win.
On Saturday, the Junior Cards skated to a 6-1 victory over CSB of Vermont. Kurtis Olsen and Christian Thomas each scored twice with Josh McCauley and Brendan Whalen adding goals. Luke Carpenter had two assists with Ian Urquhart and Whalen getting one each. Cole Harvey made several key saves before the Cards pulled away.
The Junior Cards are now 11-1 on the season.
Skating Club begins session
PLATTSBURGH — The Skating Club of the Adirondacks will begin a new session Nov. 21-22 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
Basic Skills lessons will be offered for Snowplow through Basic 8 levels, with a choice of a Saturday or Sunday session. The Saturday lesson schedule for this weekend only is as follows: Basic 4-8 from 8-9 a.m. and Snowplow thru Basic 3, 8:15-9 a.m. The rest of the scheduled Saturday lessons will begin at 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. for each group.
The Sunday sessions for this weekend only will begin with Snowplow thru Basic 3 from 4-4:45 p.m. and Basic 4 to 8, 4:30-5:30 p.m. The remainder of the session will be from 3:45-4:30 p.m. and 4:15-5:15 p.m., respectively
The club will also be offering the Freestyle and Adult Group lessons on Sundays only from 5:15-6:30 p.m. (this weekend) with the rest of the scheduled lessons from 5-6:15 p.m. For more information, or to receive a registration form, contact Sarah Cosgro, at 562-1514.

Friday Crew leads at Riverside
AUSABLE FORKS — The Friday Night Crew and Upstate Five are the leaders after Week 3 of the 33rd-Annual Riverside Lanes Handicap Tournament. There is one week to go in the team tournament.
The Friday Night Crew, with a 158 handicap, posted a 3,399 score to lead the Men's Division. Howard Drake rolled a 288 game and 750 series while Jeff Howard contributed a 719. Fred Drake, 647; Jug Parrow, 642; and Dan Vincent, 641, round out the team.
M&M; Diner is in second with a 3,392 score, followed by North Bowl Restaurant, 3,381; Bill's MiniMart, 3,373; and North Bowl Pro Shop, 3,356, to round out the top five.
The Upstate Five, with a 208 handicap, bowled a 2,928 to take the Women's Division lead. Roxie Williams posted a 613 series to lead the way while Beth Hanley, 597; Janette Isham, 589; Kelly McDonald, 566; and Deanna Santor, 563, complete the team.
Lisa's Crew is in second place with a 2,851 score. Sister Mary Doris, 2,834, is third with NA USBC Keglers, 2,808, and Vincent's Woodcrafters, 2,788, completing the first five.
Malone No-Tap has openings
MALONE — The Sons of the American Legion Post 219 Malone annual No-Tap Team Tournament began Saturday and runs through Nov. 22 at Lucky Strike Lanes. There are squad times available this Saturday and Sunday.
Entry fee is $65 per team. There will be door prize raffles and a 50-50 drawing. You do not have to be a league bowler to participate.

Recore grabs Wiffleball honors
PLATTSBURGH — John Recore earned Player of the Week honors for the Plattsburgh Wiffleball League after collecting six hits with a grand slam Thursday night in Lashway Meat Market's 11-4 win over Kevin Leavine's Team. Jim Reisdorf chipped in with four hits and a homer while Ian Passino had three hits for Leavine's.
Reilly Lawliss got two hits as Subject to Blackout edged The Prowlers 2-1.
Jim Manchester and Dave Kerr each had three hits with a round-tripper as Bobby's Lounge defeated Trim's Boys 16-8. Bobby Hall also homered for the winners while JT VanValkenberg belted a four-bagger for Trim's.
Scott Stevens collected five hits and Ryan Parks, four hits with a home run, to lead Peabody's past Kevin Leavine's, 14-5. Tom Perry had three hits with a homer for Leavine's.
Beartown swap shop Sunday
PLATTSBURGH — Beartown Ski Area will hold its annual Ski and Snowboard Swap Shop Sunday at Seton Academy, formerly St. Peter's School, on North Catherine
Downhill ski, snowboard, and cross country ski equipment can be dropped off on Saturday, from 3-7 p.m., and Sunday, from 9 a.m.-noon. The sale will get under way Sunday at 1 p.m.
NCCS to recognize fall athletes
CHAMPLAIN — Northeastern Clinton will hold its Fall Sports Recognition Night on Thursday in the high-school auditorium. The first session will start at 6 p.m. and include the sports of Modified Soccer and Modified Cross Country.
The second session will start at 6:40 p.m. and include the sports of Varsity Cross Country, JV Soccer and Varsity Soccer.

City registering for youth hoops
PLATTSBURGH —The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department is accepting registration from city boys and girls for youth basketball. The program includes the following divisions: boys grades 3-4, girls grades 3-4, boys grades 5-6 and girls grades 5-6.

CADYVILLE — The Town of Saranac is holding registration for any child in grades 1-6 interested in playing basketball. The registration will be held at the Saranac Town Hall Wednesday, from 6:30-8 p.m.
