PITTSBURGH — Last season, the Chatham women's hockey team scored against Plattsburgh State for the first time since 2005.
The Cougars took another step forward Saturday when they had a lead against the Cardinals on a goal from Dawson Bancroft three minutes into the game.
But the lead was short-lived, and once again Chatham fell to the Cardinals.
Megan DiJulio scored two goals and Plattsburgh State won in its first game of the season, 4-1, against ECAC-West opponent Chatham Saturday.
The Cardinals out-shot the Cougars, 60-15.
"It was obviously good to come up with the win," Houle said. "It was a hard-fought game."
DiJulio scored the tying goal on an assist by Buehler in the second period and the Cardinals took the lead when Stephanie Moberg put a shot in the net less than a minute into the final stanza.
DiJulio scored her second goal three minutes later, assisted by Kayla McDougall, and Kristen Bond made it 4-1 on an unassisted goal at 7:13.
Mandy Mackrell made 14 saves between the pipes for the Cardinals.
"She did well," Houle said. "The first goal was a breakdown on our end. She settled down, and it's not easy to play in those games where you don't have a lot of shots."
Plattsburgh State plays a second game against Chatham today at 1 p.m.
