PLATTSBURGH — It took nearly an entire half for the Chazy Eagles to settle down and capitalize on offensive opportunities Saturday — but when they finally did, it was tough for Chateaugay to keep up.

The Eagles scored twice in the final seven minutes of the first half and three more times in the second half on their way to a 5-2 victory over Chateaugay in NYSPHAA Class D quarterfinal action.

Chazy's Victoria Reynolds scored twice and seven other Eagles tallied a point in the game.

"We try not to focus on just one person putting the ball in the net," Chazy coach Karin Trombley said.

Astrid Kempainen opened the scoring at 33:56 in the first half with a bottom-right corner shot on an assist from Devin Latremore.

"We were playing good possession soccer up to that point, but there were times we needed to just take our opportunities and shoot it," Trombley said. "Astrid is not a greedy player, and she set the tone by showing she can go up the middle and shoot."

Caitlyn Lapier put the Eagles (20-0) up by two goals less than nine minutes later on a rebound off a big serve from Alexis Bushey. Bushey booted a shot from the right side of the box that hit the crossbar and landed in front of Lapier.

Reynolds tallied her first of two scores 2:48 into the second half on a Chelsea Guay assist, and Emily LaPierre scored on an Amber Polomsky assist.

Trombley said it was probably the best the team played all season even with the non-stop pouring rain throughout the game.

"We didn't really let the weather bother us at all," she said. "They tell me they love playing in the rain."

Chateaugay's Alexis Beach and Marissa Cook each scored for the Bulldogs in a two-minute span with under seven minutes remaining in the game.

Raquel Fowler assisted on both goals. The two scores matched the amount of goals made against Chazy all season long.

Amanda Wilcox made 13 saves, including a big stop on a 1-on-1 situation against Lapier to keep the score knotted at 0-0 midway through the first half.

The Eagles will play their semifinal game Friday in Cortland.

"We're just going to keep focusing on being consistent this week," Trombley said. "We're excited, the girls have worked all season to get there."
