NORWOOD — So the Chateaugay Bulldogs are not invincible after all.

The Bulldogs dropped their first game of the season Tuesday, but rallied to defeat the Ogdensburg Blue Devils 3-1 for the overall championship in Section X girls' volleyball.

Chateaugay (19-0) will advance to the state tournament Saturday, meeting up with either Lake George or Mayfield in the first round of the Class D playoffs. The Bulldogs are two-time Final Four participants and state runners-up last year.

Chateaugay started off well Tuesday, beating the Blue Devils 25-4 behind the stellar serving of Amanda Woodward, who had a 16-point run to open the game.

However, OFA, came back to win the second game, 25-18 — the first time Chateaugay has lost a game all season.

"We played great the first game, but we didn't play very well the second," Chateaugay Coach Chris Reynolds admitted. "But Ogdensburg is a very good team. Their only loss during the season was to us.

"And it's good for us to find out how we react to losing and being down."

Chateaugay came back to win Game 3 25-18 and then finished off the overall championship match with a 25-15 triumph.

Erika LaBombard was credited with 18 assists while Cindy Harrigan finished with 10 assists, 6 kills and one block. Annie Smith contributed 11 points, 5 aces, 23 kills and one block and Michelle Swanston added 10 points with two aces and a block. Stephanie Boyea had five kills.

Woodward, who also had a seven-point run inthe third, finished with 31 points and six aces.

Reynolds and assistant coach Larry Barcomb will take in today's Lake George-Mayfield playoff in Section II. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
