10 YEARS AGO (1999)
Matt Devins's goal gives Chazy a 2-1 win over Waterford and a berth in the state Final Four in soccer while Seton Catholic, behind Ion Etxaide, defeats Potsdam 2-1 to advance to the state semifinals.

Chris Trombley hits Jon St. Clair with a 30-yard scoring pass on fourth-and-11 with 2:40 left to lift Peru to a 35-26 win over Fonda-Fultonville, putting the Indians in the state semifinals.

Seton Catholic's Jason Jabaut finishes second in the state Class D cross-country meet. His time of 16:50 is the sixth-best, overall.

Joey Honahan scores twice to lead Malone past Plattsburgh High 3-2 in the boys' soccer regionals while Amber Goppert gets 3 goals as the Huskies trim the Hornets 3-0 in the girls' playoffs.

20 YEARS AGO (1989)
Kevin Hammond runs 65 yards to score as Moriah stuns playoff-bound Saranac Lake 24-21.

Chad Lawrence and Derek Taylor lead Malone to its second straight state championship in cross-country while Sue Bergh paces the FA girls to a second-place finish.

Section VII enjoys its best showing yet at the state meet with Sara Facteau, second, Patti McCormick, fourth, and Kyle Watson, ninth.

Mary Rickson scores the only goal and Toni Trost stars on defense as Seton Catholic averts a sweep of Section VII in regional soccer action with a 1-0 win over Ogdensburg. Marcellus ends Seton's run with a 2-0 win despite the brilliant play of keeper Suzie Paiser, who has 25 saves.

Former AuSable Valley standout Tammy Rule, a freshman at Mohawk Valley CC, finishes 11th out of 130 runners in the NJCAA cross-country championships.

Denfield James scores 19 points to become Clinton Community College career scoring leader with 951 points.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Mark Papin turns in his best race ever to help Northeastern Clinton nip St. John's 27-28 and lay claim to the CVAC cross-country title. Teammate Andy Guay goes on to finish sixth in Class B at the state meet while Beekmantown's Sue Klein places 10th.

Saranac's Shane Parliament sets a CVAC season record for passing yards with 1,103 while teammate Darren Utzler sets the record for catches with 31.

Ken Lapierre scores and Blair Villemaire makes 17 saves as Chazy reaches the state semifinals in Class D soccer with a 1-0 win over Johnsburg. The Eagles are denied a trip to the final by 2-time state champ Southold, which wins 2-1. David Reynolds scores for the Eagles.

The Chazy girls beat Eastport High School in a dramatic, two-day semifinal, advancing on Carol Latremore's goal in the shootout. Darkness halts play the first day with the score tied at one.

Charlie McCormick intercepts 2 passes, giving him 11 for the season, and Alan Nephew runs for 2 scores as Beekmantown completes a 9-0 campaign, its first perfect season in CVAC football.

Sophomore Rachel Renfro sets a record in the backstroke and Theresa Bobal and Karen Crossett double as Peru defeats AuSable Valley for the Section VII girls' swim title. AuSable's Lisa Roach is the lone triple winner.

30 YEARS AGO (1979)
Lynn Loreman scores from Lori Duprey to give AuSable Valley a 1-0 win over Saranac Lake in the Girls' Div. I intersectional soccer playoffs. Cindy Coolidge makes 14 saves for the shutout while Patty Muldowney has 13 for the Redskins.

Dian Ball's fourth-period score lifts Willsboro to a 3-2 win over Chateaugay in the Div. II game. Lori Belzile scores twice for the Warriors with Sue McClure making 4 saves. Lori Cowan gets both Chateaugay goals while Barb Bissonette has 3 saves.

Roger Desroches runs for two scores, Bob Burnell adds 131 yards rushing and a 26-yard field goal and Andy Light accounts for 2 TDs as Beekmantown beats St. John's 30-0 to cap the school's first unbeaten season (7-0-1) in football.

Sophomore Kathy Glenn, coming back from an early-season elbow injury, wins 3 events to lead the PHS gymnasts to the Section VII crown.

Joanne Pearl sets 2 Section 7 records and Cathy Carney, one, as Section 7 defeats Section 10 in girls' swimming.

Kathy Brandell finishes 12th in Class B, the best showing by a Section VII runner at the state cross-country meet. Tupper Lake's Marty Beauchamp sets a Fayetteville course record of 17:13 for 5 kilometers.

40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Mike Francis runs 86 yards to score as PHS plays St. John's to a 6-6 tie, leaving the Irish with a 6-0-2 record. Larry Carpenter's 2-yard run accounts for the Irish score.

Jeff Murdock runs for three touchdowns and Stan Gilbo comes up big on defense as Moriah beats Ticonderoga 24-0 to gain a share of the CVAC crown with St. John's.

Steve Ducatte races 62 yards to set up Bob Proctor's 10-yard field goal in Beekmantown's 9-6 win over Saranac. Mike St. Louis gets the Beekmantown TD while Brent Cringle scores for the Chiefs.

50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Bob Prudenzano runs for 2 touchdowns and Red Murdock tosses 2 TD passes to Wayne Brewster as Port Henry defeats Plattsburgh High 34-0. Bill McDonough also scores for the Porters.

Chris Greer scores twice and passes to Tom McFadden for another score as St. John's completes the first perfect (8-0) season in the school's history with a 21-0 win over Mineville.

60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Bobby Gendron scores the touchdown and Jim Brown adds the PAT for PHS in a 7-6 win over MAI. Les Fessette scores on a 1-yard run for the Mount after fullback Roger Lemieux's 7-yard gain sets up the TD.

Pat Salerno passes to Jim Lemza for one score and runs in another as Port Henry rallies to tie St. John's 21-21. Charlie DePaoli also scores for the Porters while Sonny DeVitto is 3-for-3 in PATs. Jim Sears runs for one TD and passes to George Davis for another while Gerry Holland adds a rushing touchdown for the Irish.

70 YEARS AGO (1939)
Jamie Feltman intercepts a lateral pass and runs it in from 30 yards for MAI's lone score in a 6-6 tie with PHS. Ray Barney's one-yard run accounts for the PHS touchdown.

Finnell, Forkey, Carver and Trudeau score goals as Altona beats Morrisonville 9-0 to win the mythical county soccer title.

Bernard Harrica of Rouses Point and Ellenburg's John Clinton and Martin Nolan are elected officers of a new basketball league planned for outside the city of Plattsburgh.
