PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team plays a preseason contest today before opening the 2009-10 season next weekend.

The Cardinals will host the Nepean (Ont.) Junior Wildcats at 1:15 p.m. at Stafford Ice Arena.

The exhibition replaces one originally scheduled against Ontario Hockey Academy.

The Wildcats, an Intermediate AA club, faced four ECAC West teams last month. They beat Utica 2-1, Oswego 3-0 and Potsdam 6-1. Neumann beat them 5-2.

Alex Gaucher-Loksts leads the Wildcats with 21 points in 22 games. Vanessa Welten has 19 points, including a team-high 11 goals.

Plattsburgh State beat Nepean 6-0 in an exhibition last season.

The Cardinals start the regular season by visiting Chatham Nov. 14-15, and their home opener is the following Saturday against rival and defending ECAC West champion Elmira.

Plattsburgh State was picked by the coaches to finish third in the conference and is ranked fourth in the USCHO.com Division III Women's Poll.
