PLATTSBURGH — Lindsey Bushey scored two goals and assisted on another Saturday afternoon, leading Seton Catholic to a Section VII Class C Championship in a 3-1 victory over Northern Adirondack.

Seton Catholic coach Jason Fenner said he wasn't sure what to expect in the first half of the game because his team hadn't played anyone in two weeks, adding that the season had been a bit of a "rollercoaster."

But the Knights' offense came out firing in the half, out-shooting the Bobcats by a 12-2 margin and getting an unassisted score from Bushey at 31:34.

"She's playing years beyond her age," Fenner said. "For an eighth-grader, she's not afraid to be aggressive."

Despite playing most of the half in their own zone, the Bobcats took advantage of their brief time on offense when Kayla Rabideau knotted the game at one apiece just before halftime on an assist from Tessa King.

Rabideau carried the ball across the top of the box and cut a shot in the top right corner of the net, giving NAC momentum going into the break.

"Right after the half, our girls were really excited," NAC coach Jared Peryea. "But (Seton) did a good job rebounding."

Fenner said the Knights stuck to their offensive gameplan in the second half, and it paid off, as they capitalized on two more chances to put the game away.

Bushey knocked in a one-timer from Alexis Bushey early in the second, and Rhea Breyette made it 3-1 14 minutes later, beating NAC goalie Jesslin Golovach in a race to the ball.

Golovach stopped 11 shots in the game, coming up big multiple times in the first half.

The late two-goal deficit forced the Bobcats out of their defensive approach and they were unable to cut into the lead despite a few good scoring chances from Rabideau.

"Our plan was to play a defensive game all the way through if we could," Peryea said. "But once you fall behind in the second half, you have to push."
