You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

PLATTSBURGH — Marle Curle scored with less than nine minutes to play in the first half Friday and Plattsburgh High made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over stubborn Saranac Lake in the Section VII Class B quarterfinals in girls' soccer.

The Hornets will play Wednesday against the winner of Monday's Saranac-AuSable Valley quarterfinal.

The Red Storm managed to frustrate the Hornets, who were without leading scorer Sarah Carter. She missed her third straight game with an ankle injury. She is expected to play on Wednesday.

Charisse Abellard's pass from midfield set up Curle, who let go with a shot from 25 yards that caught Saranac Lake keeper Mallory Cotter a little off line. The goal came at 31:29.

"We had the wind with us the first half, but didn't capitalize," PHS Coach Tim Mulligan said. "But Saranac Lake gave us a different look than the last time we played them. They certainly played good defense tonight and Rhonwen Jones in the back played very well."
