POTSDAM — Zach Newton's goal early in the second half was all the scoring in Parishville-Hopkinton's win over Chateaugay in the Section X Class D boys' soccer semifinals on Friday.
Newton tallied the game-winner at the 3:29 mark when he rushed the net on a Parishville-Hopkinton direct kick and headed the ball over Chateaugay netminder Eric Fleury and into the net.
"It was a perfectly-executed direct kick," said Chateaugay coach Bob Ouimet.
The Bulldogs held an 8-2 advantage in shots and Dennis Tebo made eight saves for the winners.
"Connor Hesseltine hit the post and we had another shot that went wide," Ouimet said. "We were getting chance after chance and putting pressure on them on corner kicks and direct kicks. But, we couldn't finish it off.
"I can't fault the way everybody played. We came ready to play and the seniors played their hearts out. We lost to them last year in a shootout and they seem to have our number."
In the other semifinal, Harrisville recorded a 1-0 overtime win over Lisbon.
