You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

Peru's Dick wins state Elks soccer shoot
ROTTERDAME — Jacob Dick of Peru won the New York State Elks Soccer Shoot Championship, U-14 division, hosted by Rotterdam Lodge #2157. His score of 39 was 10 points better than the second-place finisher.

Dick, representing Plattsburgh Lodge 621 and the North District Elks Lodges, now advances to the Area 1 competition in St. Albans, Vt., Nov. 6-8. Jacob represented Plattsburgh Lodge #621 and the North District Elks Lodges.

Airborne awards banquet set for Nov. 6
SOUTH PLATTSBURGH — Airborne Speedway will honor its 2009 champions in five divisions and present various awards Friday, Nov. 6 at the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall in Altona.

Among the honorees will be Ernie's Tools Modified champion Martin Roy of Napierville, QUE., J&S; Steel Sportsman champion Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade titleholder Lonnie Rivers of Cadyville and four-cylinder champions Bill Thwaits/NAPA Mini-Modifieds and Jayson Blondo/Monster Energy Bombers.

Individual achievement awards as determined by ballot will be announced and the top 15 competitors in each division will be presented trophies.

Banquet tickets ($30) are available to anyone interested in attending, but must be purchased by Sunday, Nov. 1 by calling the Speedway office, at 561-3208 or 569-2239.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and awards and dancing to follow.

Town registering for youth basketball
WEST PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh is conducting registration for its winter youth basketball program for girls and boys in grades 3-6.

Practices will begin during the week of Dec. 1 and will be either after school or in the evenings, depending on gym availability. Games will be on Saturdays, beginning Jan. 9 for eight weeks.

Registration forms were sent home throughout the Saranac and Beekmantown Central School Districts and need to be turned in either to the school or to the Town Recreation Department by Friday, Nov. 13. Registrations can also be downloaded from the Town website www.townofplattsburgh.com. Late registrations will be placed on a waiting list with no guarantee of getting on a team.

Girls' soccer playoff games
moved to Monday night

PLATTSBURGH — Two Section VII girls' soccer games have been rescheduled for next week.

The AuSable Valley-Saranac Class B playoff scheduled for today has been moved to Monday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m. on the turf field in Clintonville.

The Peru-Northeastern Clinton Class B playoff also postponed from today will be played Monday at 5 p.m. at Northeastern Clinton in Champlain.

Bowl Mart Madness continues tonight
CHAMPLAIN — The Friday Night Madness tournament series continues at the Bowl Mart tonight with a 9-pin event at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $20.

Also, the band Friction will be playing after the tournament.

Modified football game moved to Monday
CLINTONVILLE — The Saranac Lake vs. AuSable Valley modified football game scheduled for Thursday will be played instead on Monday, with a 4:30 p.m. kickoff at the AuSable Valley Middle/High School.



Pumpkin Muffin 5K Fun Run Saturday
PAUL SMITHS — The Paul Smith's College Striders will host the 16th-Annual Pumpkin Muffin 5-Kilometer (3.1 miles) Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. The course will be partially on pavement with the remainder on woodland trails. Approximately one mile of the course utilizes the hilly Adirondack Park Visitor's Interpretive Center's Silviculture Trail.

The start and finish is located on the campus roadway, near Essex Hall, while race registration will take place on the porch of nearby Lambert Hall. Although times will be recorded, the Pumpkin Muffin Fun Run is intended to give participants an opportunity to have fun with their family and friends.

Junior Cardinal Pee Wees roll to victory
PLATTSBURGH — Harry Jacobs and Kyle Constanty each scored twice and added an assist Sunday to lead the Plattsburgh Junior Cardinal Pee Wees to a 9-1 victory over the Saratoga Blue Knights at Lake City Arena. Collin Giroux contributed four points with Michael Stetz, Tristan Archambault, Andrew Bechard, and Chase Dixon rounding out the scoring.

Mike Stetz and T.J. Oricchio especially had strong games on defense department. Giancarlo Ventre was in goal for the Cardinals, who outshot their opponents 49-14.

The Pee Wees (5-2) will be in Massena Saturday to play the St. Lawrence Thunder.
