SARANAC LAKE — The North Country Community College men's soccer team received the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region III tournament and will host a quarterfinal game Tuesday. The Saints (13-2-1) will take on the winner of Saturday's Hudson Valley C.C. vs. Genesee C.C. game.
The Saints also recently had five players named to the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference Team. Freshman defender Harley Hollinshead, sophomore midfielders Chris Stephenson and Liam Gilbert and freshman forwards Randy Danso and Ernest Afful each received the honor. This is Gilbert's second appearance after being named All-Conference in 2008.
Afful was also honored as the Conference Player of the Year after finishing the regular season with 18 goals and eight assists. Adam Parker receivied the conference's Coach of the Year Award.
The Saints were Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Co-Champions.
Cox named to All-Conference Team
North Country freshman Stephanie Cox was voted to the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference Team as a forward. Cox tallied three goals and one assist in five conference games this fall and led the Saints in overall scoring with 11 goals and 11 assists. Cox is the program's first player to earn All-Conference honors, in the second season the team has competed in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
"This is a great award for Stephanie and it validates all the hard work she put in all season long in every game and every practice," coach Stephen Conger said. "She definitely made an impact in every game for us. I am proud of Stephanie, and expect her to continue to be a leader for our team next season."
The Saints finished the season 5-10-0.
