Don’t assail or impugn an identifiable individual or group. If you have that kind of criticism, sign your name and submit it as a Letter to the Editor. (There is some leeway on this in connection with public officials, but it is not unconditional.)

Don’t use profanity. This includes the term “tea bagger.”

Don’t be incendiary or tasteless. Those qualities are subjective, of course, and our editors will be the arbiters.

Do not identify yourself in the main content area of the article content form. Only by enforcing this rule can the moderators prevent unscrupulous commenters from falsely identifying themselves as someone they are not.

Don't type in all caps. It is considered the Internet equivalent of shouting.

In sports articles, do not criticize officiating.

Remember, moderators are not allowed to edit any article comments. If an article comment fails any of the above criteria, the entire comment will be deleted.

B'town gymnasts conference champs

BEEKMANTOWN — There was no place like home for the Beekmantown Eagles this fall.

The Eagles ended the Plattsburgh High Hornets eight-year reign over Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics Friday afternoon with a 156.20 to 153.05 triumph in the third and final meeting of the season. Beekmantown beat PHS twice in Eagle Country while suffering its lone defeat at Plattsburgh on Oct. 6.

The Eagles, who won the first meeting by a scant .20 points, turned back the Hornets in a more convincing manner Friday, enjoying a 3.15-point advantage.

Alyssa Leonard led Beekmantown (7-1) to victory with two firsts and the high all-around score of 34.40. It was her best showing in the three head-to-head meetings with PHS.

Leonard, who tied for second on the uneven bars and took third in floor exercise, won vaulting with an 8.4 and the balance beam with a season-best 9.05.

Teammate Mikaela Frechette also turned in her best all-around effort (34.20) against PHS. She had three seconds and a third.

Plattsburgh's Emy Russell tied Frechette in all-around after winning on the bars with an 8.4 and in floor exercise with an 8.7.

Emily Vasquez also had a big day for Beekmantown, with a 32.05 all-around.

Beekmantown will close out the regular season Tuesday in Ticonderoga and then turn its attention to the Section VII championships a week from today at Plattsburgh.
