10 YEARS AGO (1999)
Seton Catholic's Jason Jabaut finishes first and Josh Jabaut, fifth, in the Large School race of the Guilderland Inmvitational. Saranac Lake wins the Small School team title.

Jim Leahy runs for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead unbeaten Saranac Lake to a 15-7 win over Tupper Lake. James Trummer adds 133 yards on the ground for the Red Storm.

Travis Landry's goal with less than 10 minutes to play gives Crown Point a 2-1 win and snaps Chazy's 50-game unbeaten streak against MVAC soccer opponents. Mike Roessel also scores while Jeff Ross makes 25 saves.

Nick Carte scores 4 times and Chris Trombley passes for 138 yards in Peru's 35-0 win over Seton Catholic.

Lauren Kavanaugh's goal lifts unbeaten Northeastern Clinton to a 1-0 win over Peru.

Ryan McMartin scores twice as unbeaten PHS beats NAC 2-0 in soccer.

20 YEARS AGO (1989)
Dan Dorsett tosses a TD pass to Fred Merrill and Joe Tucker runs for another score as unbeaten Ticonderoga edges Peru 14-13.

Kevin Barnhart's breakaway goal in the first overtime gives Elizabethtown-Lewis a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Keene.

Former Plattsburgh State standout Karen Wiley is named head coach of the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer program.

David Ransom runs for 3 scores and Marvin Ransom, one, in AuSable Valley's 41-0 rout of Tupper Lake.

Rob Perry and Brad Scott score 2 TDs each as Malone rips Gouverneur 48-6.

Michelle Blanchard and Wendy Sayward score to give Willsboro a 2-1 win over Chazy in a battle of MVAC soccer unbeatens. Sarah Hanfield scores for Chazy.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Pete Ewald comes up with a key stop in the Syracuse secondary, helping the Orange shock No. 1 Nebraska 17-9.

Shane Parliament passes for 186 yards and Jim Bessey runs for 2 scores as Saranac beats Peru for the first time in football, 26-15.

Chance Rambin throws for 207 yards and 5 touchdowns in Beekmantown's 56-14 win over AuSable Valley.

12-year-old Michelle Monahan, a seventh-grader at St. John's, finishes second in the freshman race at the 46th Grout Invitational, missing the course record by 15 seconds.

Barry Bourgeois scores 4 goals and AuSable Valley takes over the CVAC soccer lead with a 6-0 win over PHS.

30 YEARS AGO (1979)
Former Dodgers great and Witherbee native Johnny Podres is named pitching coach of the Boston Red Sox, replacing Al Jackson.

Keith Pepper scores in the first overtime, lifting PHS to a 1-0 win over previously unscored upon NAC.

Debbie Hull scores twice and Raune Decker, once, as AuSable Valley tops previously unbeaten Chazy 3-0.

Patti Bennett scores the goal while Kolleen Miller, Celia Uliva and Jean Onbrek star on defense as Peru hands PHS its first loss in field hockey in 3 years, 1-0.

Matt Karkoski rushes for 202 yards and 3 touchdowns and Pat Bice chips in with 121 yards on 7 carries as Ticonderoga trounces Poultney, Vt. 56-0.

Lynn O'Connell, 15, of Schuyler Falls finishes first in her division at the National Appaloosa Youth Show in Columbus, Ohio. She is also a member of the winning state team.

Terri Swart, Sally Swart and Shelly Jubert lead Plattsburgh High over Ticconderoga and Tupper Lake in gymnastics.

Freshman Giselle Filion leads MAI over AuSable Valley in gymnastics.

40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Frank Yasment scores 2 goals and Dave Garrow, one, as Lyon Mountain edges Chazy 3-1 in a battle of CCIL soccer unbeatens. Bob Trombley accounts for the Eagles' goal.

Former Ellenburg standout Basil Curry, and Chicago Cubs' Triple A pitcher, is appointed athletic director at Washingtonville Central School.

50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Kenneth Hawksby and Dave Lamberton score 2 goals each as Mooers defeats St. Mary's 8-0.

Colin Thompson's penalty kick gives Dannemora a 1-0 win over Ellenburg in CCIL soccer.

Eddie Nels runs for 3 scores and Billy Larrow adds another as Mineville drubs PHS 39-0. Charlie Turek hits George LaMoria with a TD pass.

60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Joe Rotella runs for 2 scores, Bob Garrand returns an interception for six and Genier adds a touchdown in Mineville's 26-0 win over MAI.

Tony Pope scores 4 touchdowns and Jim O'Connell, Tom Giambruno and Jim Brown one each in Plattsburgh High's 40-0 win over Ticonderoga.

Sam Bailey's RBI single and Ned Hoey's RBI double lift AuSable Forks to an 8-7 victory over the Plattsburgh VFW in the final game of the Champlain Valley Baseball League championship series. Ed Ashley comes on in relief in the bottom of the ninth to strike out 2 batters after the VFW scores a run. Shine Brault goes 3-for-4 for the VFW.

Joe Edgely returns the opening kickoff 94 yards to score, setting the tempo for Lake Placid's 39-6 win over St. John's. Edgely also throws 4 TD passes — 2 to Gerry Law and one each to Miles Nash and Frank Porter. Jerry Holland has 4 TDs for the Irish.

70 YEARS AGO (1939)
The new Port Henry athletic field is named for the late Harold W. Henry Field in recognition of his work in planning and building the field.

Ray Barry scores twice and Merle Everleth comes up with a key interception to lead Plattsburgh High to a 12-6 win over Port Henry. Porter QB Gilmore runs 3 yards for a score.
